I would like to get some advice or input on whether I should buy a new energy-efficient freezer. My current freezer is an upright from the 1970's that is about 4 foot tall. It is not energy efficient at all, but still works fine. I am concerned about how much energy it uses, especially in the summer time since we keep it in the garage due to lack of space. Plus, I read that the upright freezers are not as energy-efficient as the "deep-freeze" chest kind. I don't want to ask a sales person's advise because of course they will tell me I need to buy a new one and that I will save money by doing so. Plus, there are the "green" concerns. Right now, I am not being very green by keeping it, but if I get rid of it, it becomes land-fill. Any thoughts?

I was thinking the same thing about my refrigerator. Then I went to the Energy Star site. They let you type in the model number of your refrigerator or freezer, and it will calculate the savings you would have if you get a new one. For me, it wasn't worth the price of a new fridge. So I'll keep the old one a couple more years.
