I have always thought that Tide was too expensive and not worth the extra money. I use All Free and Clear due to my Ds12's eczema and it works great.

Ditto...I've never been impressed by it. We like Arm & Hammer powdered detergent. Works great for me. I don't have a problem with stains, if I see anything, I just put a dab of blue Dawn on it and everything comes out.

I agree with the Charlie's soap. It really does work pretty good. It works better though if you have a water softener, which I don't. But...if you like Tide, the Sears brand is made by Tide.

I sue purex and get it on sale 4 for $5.00 plus my coupons. I haven't really noticed any difference in detergents. It is all how you pre treat a stain. I use dreft stain remover on all our stains. It works better than shout, spray n wash, greased lightning, etc. Also, I find using fabric softner is the only way I ever notice a difference. And I only use fabris softner once in a while on my towels.

I have to imagine that the quality of water used and the mineral content in the water makes a difference. I have saved so many clothes simply by using Tide. It is unbelievable how many clothes were ruined because even though I pretreated and soaked my clothes, I still couldn't get the stains out with All, Purex, etc. I am a firm believer in Tide and have found that for my family the extra cost saves me lots of money in the end. My friends in our town also believe this - and we all agree it is because of the mineral content of our water. I've used other brands in other locations and they worked just fine, but not here.

I stopped using Tide when I got married almost 20 years ago. DH develops an awful rash from it (and from most of the major name brands). I did some research on Consumer Reports and learned that Costco's brand rates well, so I have been using that with no complaints. However, we just got a new HE washer, so when I run out of my current bucket-o-detergent, I'm going to try Costco's HE variety.

By the way, their brand (Kirkland) of ecologically-friendly dish soap is lovely!

I used to use Tide, but now I use Costco's Kirkland brand free and clear. It works nicely.

In today's economy, with so many agreeing that Tide is overpriced, you would think they'd listen to their prospective customers and lower their price.

Dreft is the same way: it is very expensive, but works well. However, as soon as I felt my baby is old enough, I stop using it. They would probably have much longer-term customers if they'd be more reasonable. They told me via email, when I inquired, that they rarely to never offer discounts or coupons. Laundry soap is not where I want to spend a lot of money. I'm willing to pay a little more, but more than twice as much, which is what I see locally, is too much for Tide.
