I love Tide but I can't always afford to buy it. I usually go with what's on sale and what I have a coupon for. I saw this segment on my local news station and found it very informative!

Local News - Cincinnati breaking news, weather radar, traffic from 9News | Channel 9 WCPO.com

I'm just wondering... if the results would have been any different with pretreating?

You should try Charlie's Soap. I think it is very affordable. I have a 5 gallon bucket that will probably last me 2 years.

I never thought Tide was worth the money. I'm loving the Charlie's soap just fine. You buy it online. I found it just by googling charlie's soap.

I do agree that Tide is superior. I don't think I've ever paid $8 for it like the report said. P&G almost always has coupons for it in the Sunday inserts. I use it when I can get it on sale and use coupons. When I can't, I find that Purex works well too. In another thread another MS member suggested the Walmart store brand, which I've been wanting to try too.

I like Purex and Arm & Hammer. I have never bought Tide, it is too expensive IMO.

I think Tide is WAY too expensive. The coupons they always have in the paper are for $.35 off - not much savings - even when doubled. I've liked Era, Purex and Arm & Hammer - depending on what's on sale!

I know in the past I have recommended the Walmart brand but I'm back to Tide. There really was a huge difference.

I thought it was interesting that dirt wasn't one of the tests, because that is what my kids get into the most. I've washed and dried dirt stains with other brands, only to find the clothes still dirty. Tide gets the stain out, even after it's been through the drier. Not to mention, those Simple Pleasures Tides really make the clothes smell nice for much longer than other brands. I love that fresh smell when I open the kid's drawers.
