Question: I have some whole wheat flour: My recipe calls for whole wheat self rising flour: Can I add something to my regular whole wheat flour to make it self rising flour? How?

Answer:
The standard method to convert regular flour into self-rising is to add baking powder and a generous pinch of salt. 1 teaspoon baking powder to 1 cup of flour. This should work with whole wheat flour as well but as it tends to be a bit denser than white flour I would add a little more; 1 1/4 tsps to 1 cup. Just stir the baking powder into the flour and proceed as normal.

I think I will try this with the 1/2 cup of sugar because I didn't think this had much flavor.

I've used this recipe a few times. The whole family loves it.

Thanks
