During the last election when my dd was in kindergarten (my, how time flies ), her class did a mock presidential election. She said they'll get to do another one tomorrow. I think it's a fun way for the kids to feel involved in politics.

Will your kids be doing anything like this tomorrow?

Our kids' school had their 'election' on Friday and my boys were very excited, and when we had people over the weekend, I heard them asking their friends who they voted for. It was the sweetest thing.

ETA: When I asked DS#2(5) who he voted for he said, "John the king".

My DS voted last week and they'll get the results this week. I think it's great as long as they incorporate it into a lesson about the history of politics or something along that line.

My ds is in 3rd grade and they are not having a mock election, but they do have to turn in a poster "collage" about the Presidential candidate they are "voting" for. The poster has to include facts about the candidate, like birthdate, hobbies, etc. They also have to include the major points that candidate is focusing on. Then, when they present the posters in front of the class, they have to be able to sum up in ONE sentence what that President is "all about" & why they are voting for him!

I have mixed emotions about it.....I think it is good to get the children involved early, but I do think this project is a little controversial, I already know that the teacher is voting Obama, and we are for McCain.....I am just hoping the teacher doesn't hold it against my son or the others voting McCain.....she tends to be a little immature, we've had problems with her since the first day of school, and it is sooo totally something she would do!

At my dd's elementary school, they're having an election tomorrow, too.

My oldest is in 2nd grade and voted today. She came home and made a statement about one of the candidates. When I asked where she heard that from (I wanted to make sure the teacher wasn't planting ideas in her head about one candidate over the other) and she told me her friend told her. Just when you think your kids don't listen to you they pay attention and talk at school.

Yes, ours does. I think it's a pretty good representation of how the parents are going to be voting. In fact, our friend ate lunch at school last week and a third grader asked him who he was voting for. The third grader said, "I hope not Obama - he's going to raise our taxes!" I wonder where he heard that?!

My 5th grader just told me they were voting tomorrow. My 10th grader already did.
