I was awoken this morning at 4:20 a.m. to my dd throwing up. After we got her all cleaned up, she was perky and fine, no fever or lethargy. My dd hasn't thrown up in 5 years, so this is something very unusual for her. I went back and forth over what to do and finally decided to keep her home because I was afraid she might get sick again. Now, here it is, 7 hours later, and she's just fine. She's even been eating and drinking without any problems. Now I'm kind of kicking myself because they were studying something hard in math and I'm afraid she's going to get behind.

Would you have sent your child to school or kept him/her home?

Yes I would have kept her home too. Our school has a rule that your child has to be puke and diarreah free for 24 hours before returning to school. But if I know she only puked because she ate too much or something like that, then I send her to school. But in a case like that, when you don't know for sure, its always better to err on the side of caution.

No...if my child was throwing up in the night, I would not send them to school in the morning.

I would keep my child home if they were sick during the night. Our school has rule, kids need to be puke free for 24 hrs before returning to school.

i would have kept them home. the only thing is that you never know how they will be during the day. this has happened with my ds, sick at night & ok during the day. i just make him stay in bed and do some studying. no tv &/or games.

I agree, 24 hour rule

ya never know, and better to be safe and kicking yourself than to have had to go and pick her up at school if she had been sick

Our school has a policy that they can't go to school until at least 24 hours AFTER the last time they've thrown up, so I would have kept mine home too.

I would have kept her home, bc her sleep was interupted, and she may not be able to pay attention to that hard math if she is tired. I would have only let her go if she had really wanted to. Be happy she is eating and drinking, she may only have a 24 hr bug or something.
