Do you buy gifts for your kids' teachers? Does someone in the class take up money to buy the teacher one gift from the class?

In dd's former classes, things have been done both ways. Last year someone took up money and gave the teacher a large gift from the class. When that doesn't happen, I give the teacher a gift.

I have never had to chip in money to buy a class teacher gift, instead it's up to the individual parents if they want to give a gift or not. We have always given the teacher a gift as a show of our appreciation for what they do all year long.

My oldest is in seventh grade. I am not giving gifts.

My one Ds9's teacher asked for donations to be used to buy Cmas gifts for a local family instead of gifts for her or the aide in that class.

I also have never been asked to donate to a group gift for any of my children's teachers. But I always give a small gift to show my appreciation. The charter school my kids go to (4 of them anyway) has only 18 employees (including me) so I am making up bags of homemade candies for everyone. I think everyone at our school has touched my kids' lives.

All of my kids' teachers are getting gifts from us, including the one 4th grade teacher and the four 6th grade teachers. Four out of the six gifts will be home made, but yummy. Two will be store bought. We always give the teachers a gift, because even if it is small, it is a token of appreciation.

My DH was a teacher for many years, and gifts were always welcome - especially when we were living off just his salary! lol.

I always donate towards the group gift if there is a collection going around for that...but I do like to give my own small gift either way. This year I got each of my kids teachers a 4 pc box of Godiva chocolates, a poinsettia plant ($1 each at Home Depot!) and I had bought some cut glass votive holders at Ikea last year, after Christmas ($1 each).

On Black Friday I bought 6 Wallflowers for $21! And that's what the teachers are getting. Well, I only need 4 for teachers, 2 teachers and 2 helpers. Not sure who's getting the other 2 yet.

Ds is only 2 and not in school yet, but we do a toddler class once a week and the teacher has been very kind and helpful with him (she's been so patient with his reluctance to circle time! ) We're going to get her a $10 Starbucks GC.

My dh is a middle school PE teacher and we really appreciate the gifts he receives. The small GCs (even just $5) to Starbucks, Barnes and Noble, Jamba Juice, gas cards, etc are so nice. In tough years we use the bookstore cards to buy xmas gifts for our family and in good years we actually have fun buying something for ourselves. And we always enjoy yummy homemade treats.

So, just remember that even if your child is in middle school or high school, the teachers appreciate small gifts just as much
