We had a post a little while back where someone mentioned that their kid's teacher gave the parents their home phone #. I thought "Now wouldn't that be handy?"

No teacher has ever given us their home phone #. I guess I can understand why. They probably don't want to be endlessly pestered by parents. If I were given a teacher's home phone #, I wouldn't abuse it, but it would be nice to have just in case you really needed to contact the teacher in the evening.

No...but I can't say I've ever needed/wanted their home phone number. Why would you need to contact your kids teacher in the evening? I've been very fortunate in that my kids teachers have always responded quickly to emails or notes sent in with the kids.

I dotn think I would even want it! I can leave a VM or shoot an email
The girls can get help before school if they need it bad enough.

I think that teachers have a life too!

i took a class last semester where the teacher gave his cell phone number for emergencies (usually academic). i think he used the policy that he would let it go to voice mail first and return the call if it was important.

Nope. We've never even been given an e-mail address.

No I have a couple of the teacher's email.

I do know where my youngest old 3rd grade teacher lives. We actually have been over there. Her SIL is my old co worker.

Yes, DS's teacher this year gave all the parents her info (E-mail and phone # on a magnet). It is handy, but I prefer e-mail or a note sent in their daily agendas. Knock on wood all teachers have been great at getting back to me. DD's teacher last year gave her her home # to keep in touch over the summer.

Yes, but with conditions that it be a real need to call at night. We never had a reason to use it. That was for 1st grade. This year no!

Both kids have a letter from the first day of school that has their teachers home number and school email address on it. I have only called a teacher once at home and that was last year when one of my DD classmates parents were involved in a murder/suicide and I wanted to know if she was going to tell the kids anything about it.

If I have any questions, I just shoot off an email to them at school, and they are very good about getting back to me within the same day.

I have the opposite problem -- some of dd's teachers haven't responded to e-mails or notes. I rarely ever need to contact any of dd's teachers, so when I do send a note or e-mail, it is something important (at least to me ).

Just this week there was some confusion about a homework assignment. Dd even call some of her classmates and they were also confused. In that case, a home phone # would have been very helpful.
