The new superintendent has put in a new lock on the front door and installed cameras at the high school and middle schools. They are starting to do it in the elementary schools. After school has started the doors will be locked. To enter you have to ring a bell and the secretary can see you on the camera and unlock the door from her office. I guess it will make it safer for the kids.

Yes our elementary does that. The doors are locked all day and after school also, because the Middle schoolers who wait for their elementary siblings like to roam the halls.

What is it with middleschoolers who can't just sit and wait patiently for their siblings? Last spring I had to lay the smack down on a group of them outside on the picnic tables making out including having hands down each other's pants. And their mouths are just nasty...f this, f that.

Yes, things are locked down once school starts. They also have cameras in all the parking lots as well as throughout the school (at least at the middle/high school level).

The doors are locked during the school day, when you arrive at school you have to call the office, tell them who you are and your business so they can unlock them. Then you have to stop in the office and show your id. They unlock them as soon as school lets out. Its a good idea in theory, but there have been a few times where someone is calling to get the door unlocked, and I just follow behind them and go in. NOW I have business in the school and they know me, but can you imagine someone who doesn't??

They lock all of the doors minus the front door where you have to pass the secretaries office.

yes the school I went to started this in 1998 or 99. There was one door left un locked to the parking lot and there was a desk and monitor set up at that door as the office was in the middle of the school. They were in the process of moving the office closer to the door.

Same here. I'll bet those secretaries never knew they had signed-on as security guards.

Yes, at all the schools my children have attended, all doors are locked when the school day officially starts. Visitors have to use the main entrance, and are buzzed in by the office, where they have to report to sign in/get a badge etc If you don't, you'll get a secretary chasing you down a hallway.

Yes and no. The doors around the sides and back of the buildings are generally locked but any of the doors around the front of the schools are open...you are expected to sign it at the office and get a visitor or volunteer tag.
