I know they have a grey chair that they sit in when they need to. I don't think ds has had to sit in the grey chair yet! To me this is not very Montessori, but I also realize that you have to have some order as well.

They also might have to sit inside or on the side at recess if they have been called out, which I also don't really agree with. I think they need to burn off that energy...but then again what "Are" they to do that we all feel comfortable with?

since so many of you have the color chart... maybe she is not doing it correctly. They seem to be labeled "bad" all day, and not have a chance to go up in a color. I am all for disipline, I just don't think it is consistant, and maybe that should be my beef instead of the color chart.
I asked her to give me examples of what would be considered going down a color, and it was very vague.

Our younger grades (k and 1) use the color chart, but they can always move back up a color if they are being especially good. It seems very effective.

Do many kids end up "bad" all day??? I would think that if many kids were being maked bad all day then it's a problem with the system. If it's just one or a few kids who are being frequently marked "bad" then I think it's a problem with the child(ren).

My kids did have the color system in early elem, and I never had a problem with it.

yes, many kids end up bad all day. Either on yellow orange or red, probably 1/3 of the class. I am wondering if she has just lost all patience with them, and gets color happy. DD is to the point where it used to upset her to go on those colors and now she just never understands why she has gone down. I think it is being used too much for the littlier things.

Geez, this would infuriate me at the least! I've never even used the Word "Bad" with our son - ever - to refer to him that way. I would speak with the teacher, definitely. Children learn as they live. You tell them they are "bad" and they will live up to it! Grrrrrr

You have complained before about this teacher. Do you think its time for a Parent Teacher meeting?? Maybe invite the principal or director??

actually, that is why I came for opinions and adivce.

I dunno... it's comments like these, that when one complains/needs advice/asks for opinions more than one time on a issue, you immediatly have to be sent to a professional or a thearipist and seemily are not on top of the issue at hand.

I didn't mean it like that. I just meant that you are obviously unhappy with this teacher and if you havn't discussed the problem with HER, maybe you should? Sorry if it sounded otherwise.

my kids haven't used the color system since preschool.

We have a take a break chair. It is NOT a naughty chair. It can be used by any child within reason. If a child wanted to just get away for a moment they can go sit in the chair. My dd would sit in the chair when her friend would keep interupting her during reading time. Some kids are sent to the chair by the teacher. Usually the teacher will ask if they need to take a break.

I was always in trouble at school for little things, talking too much being the primary problem. The bigger problem for me that was never address was I was BORED in school. COuld your child need more challenging work?
