Ok, Calling all moms of teens and tweens, please list your tips on Internet Safety? Chat Safety? Program tips and etc??

My biggie is NORTON ANTIVIRUS & SECURITY Program...keeps our computer from getting those virus and etc.... LOVE THAT PROGRAM....keeps my kids from viewing inappropiated pictures by emails and webcams through any chat program. DOUBLE THE FIREWALL!!! :D
They even can not add or download any programs from online without administrator access.

I tell our kid's never answer any emails that they don't know or when older ds chats don't chat with strangers on teen chat rooms and also never download anything through any chat programs b/c we told he," you don't know if your friends has some kind of virus on thier computer."
Not a mean, strict parent but a concern, caution one!!

We keep the computers in the family room, have blocked certain sites (like myspace), check the history and dd email periodically and forbid our kids from downloading anything without permission.

Avaliable at : http://ga0.org/campaign/internet_safety_kit

We also use Norton..and the parent security on it! The computer is also in our den...and although I have seen dd try to minimize real quick, I have no problem with going in and checking history after she is in bed! The other thing for us is that ALL sites have to be approved through us..and user names and passwords are POSTED on the desk. If caught using a site other than approved, no computer!! WE are SO mean!

I use McAfee security system and I can program different levels for different kids. I can allow certain sites and block some that might get through. I can program certain words to be blocked as well.

I also have MSN parental controls activated and get a report from them once a week on sites tried to visit and blocked, what was allowed, how much time was spent on the net, who he had IM's with...

I also have administrator duties on my log-in and not the kids.

I check history and e-mails frequently. We recently moved the computer into the kitchen (due to water damage inteh office) but we are going to keep it there. It really does deter the amount of time they want to be on the computer.

We used to have net nanny on the computer, but it would freeze up the computer too much, so I removed it.
