My SIL and BIL are childless. They are both speech pathologists for the school district in Irvine, CA. She sent me this email today in which I thought I would share with you all. I am interested in hearing your thoughts on the matter:

Hello all,

The link below is an awesome link that we use in the public schools to begin to address behavioral issues in the classroom. They have two separate sections on home and school. I haven't used the home section, (obviously) but I am curious to hear what you all think of the information on the site.

On the left hand side, it breaks the issues down into primary causes of the behavior, the primary need that being revealed and recommendations.

I thought it was a good site. I liked that it showed why the kids were doing the things they were. Things that they may be getting in trouble for currently all have reasons behind them, for example, the "talker" is looking for acceptance and attention. It gave some good examples of what and what not to do to help with the behaviors.

Thanks for sharing.

ChristyK, it's often the childless ones that claim to be the experts. I know of very few moms and dads who actually claim to be experts - experienced, maybe, but not experts. I get a lot of people bragging to me about their degrees in early education or even if they took one class, they know more. I kind of giggle to myself, because I had my kids late in life. Just when you think you know it all, just wait! Ha Ha! Kids are great at keeping us humble.

I take early learning mommy and me type classes. at some point the parents leave kids and go discuss topics/issues we are having with kids. well, what was funny is that one of the parent educators did not have kids although she did not act like she had all the answers. for us it's more like here when you ask for help on a particular topic. well, after she had her dd. she sent a message and said now I understand how little I really know.

I couldn't get this to open, either, but I agree with the others....those who think they have all the parenting answers need to walk a few miles in a parent's shoes! And with six, I have found that all of them have different "quirks" and react different to things. I discipline consistently, but there are things that work better with one child than the next..or for me, the next..or the next...or the next...!!! LOL
