I went to Aiden's kindergarten curriculum night last night (which was awesome...as a 1st time kindergarten parent...yes, I'm a dork) & just wondered if your school districts have the same policy on field trips.

Any parent/family member who is a chaperone on a field trip has to have a background check before they are allowed to attend. Does anyone else's school have the same policy?? Not that I have a problem with it, but I just thought "WOW"! I guess it's a good thing for the kids to be safe.

What do you gals think?

My dd's school handles it their own way -- they don't allow parents to go on field trips at all.

I don't know -- it does sound like a bit much, but I guess with our society going into the toilet, you can't trust anyone nowadays. <sigh>

Our school requires anyone going on field trips, volunteering, or going to class parties to have background checks and confidentiality training. It seems like a pain, because we have to do it every year, but I guess it's worth it to keep our kids safe.

Our school system requires police background checks (although I'm not sure how closely they really check them) and so do our boy scouts and girl scouts. So my dh and I have both had them done years ago and just make copies. Plus they keep them on file at our school, so when I needed wone to go to Russia with HS age dd last year, I just went back to the Jr. High where I'd had it done and it was still there!! It's a pain in the butt when you first have to get them done, but I guess it's really a good idea. I don't want some child perv around my kids.

Ours doesn't. I go on all the field trips and volunteer in the class and they have never checked me out (that I know of)

No, but we're a private school. I'd have no problem with it though if our school had that policy and I'd happily comply.

Yes our school system is like that. Any volunteer at the school (whether it be in the classroom, as a PTO volunteer at lunch/recess/bookfair, or as a chaporone) has to have a back ground check.

I know when I volunteered at our local elementary I had to be finger printed. Is that for a background check? I guess if it is, I didn't really realize what they were doing. I guess it's not a bad thing. I know that one of the big churches around here requires a background check for the nursery workers.
