This is from should parents be allowed to give their children B/C.

Should parents be allowed to force their teenage child to take any sort of medication? I'm mostly referring to anti-depressants or any sort of behavioral modification medication.

I know of a young man that is bi-polar, very extreme case, and he hated taking his meds that helped control his emotions. His plans, once he turned 18, was to go off of his medication. Luckily this boy, when he was 17, ran out of his meds for about 5 days and he finally was able to see that the medication really did help him and once he turned of age he decided to stay on his meds. I was around that boy during those few days he was off his meds and OMG! I had never seen such a night and day person.

I know of another teenage boy who took some anti-depressant and hated to take it because, according to him, it ruined his creative energy even though he had suicidal thoughts when he was not taking the med. He did discontinue use of his meds when he turned 18 ... of course now he self-medicates.
