Does anyone else's school ask for certain "special" supplies (that you have to look high and low for) and then they come home at the end of the year UNUSED but, you wrote your child's name on it, so you can't even really save it for a younger sibling (when they are in that grade)?

I finally (after many years of this items not being used or the item was used only once......I finally started just putting our last name on stuff, so that I could just send it with the next kid going into that grade.

I haven't had any school supplies sent home unused. But with clothes, like coats especially, I learned to just put our last name. It's a unique name around here so I don't worry about my kids' stuff getting taken by someone else with the same last name!

Yep, I learned years ago to just mark things with our last name, that way it moves freely from one sibling to another.

I remember searching hi and low for "water color markers".......every store clerk i asked kept saying "are you sure they didn't mean washable markers?", Nope, it was Water Color Markers........and i never did find them either. Got so frustrated i told my dh, let the teacher go hunt for them i've been to 6 stores already!

DK's school has to have a binder for every class. We are not supposed to use folders because the teachers do a binder ck every month. That lasts about a month then everyone uses folders anyway! So after the first year, I only bought 1 binder.

I have not had anything sent home unused either, but I do put only our last name on things like lunch boxes and such.

I just reuse stuff that they don't use one year for the next year. I have found it easier to get the basics then when they need something get it for them then.

I've never had anything obscure on our lists...nor have I had items returned unused. If you're having trouble finding something, I probably would not worry about it and just tell the teacher at Open House or the first day of school...so you can either find out where to buy it or if it's not really necessary.

That's a smart idea to just write the last name on the items...thanks ladies.

Our school wants nonperforated spiral notebooks which are next to impossible to find here, and if you do they cost soooo much more than perforated ones you can get for $.05 or $.10 apiece. This year I'm not sweating over it, if I go to one spot and they don't have it she goes with perforated.

What I don't get are the requests for 48 pencils - "to share with the class". You mean to tell me that 25 students are going to go through 1200 pencils in the school year There is no way!!

I got it together anyway, they are inexpensive, but it's hard to tell what logic they are using!
