For those who have children in Karate or Tae Kwon Do, what age did your kids start?

our acedemy did not take children until they were 5 that is until i spoke with the master and his wife(a nurse and paramedic) i asked them if my ds who was 3 at the time could come he wanted to do it with his brother.. they did allow him and since he has done so well in the last 3 months they have enlarged their childrens program to include younger children they do word some of the knowledge in a child friendly way that is easier for my ds to understand(he just turned 4) like they have to learn about and what self control is so to help him understand the definition they taught him self control is him not being crazy ect.. he will be their youngest student at just 4 years old to test for the next up level belt he has showed them he is capable of the knowledge and skills.

Mine started at 4, 5, 6 and 10. Our school did not take them at age 4 either, but my younger son was always watching the other so they let him try it out. They did TaeKwanDo for several years until we moved. They loved it. After we moved here, they started, but we really did not like the instructor so they have moved on to new activities.

DS#1 started at 4 in a special "Little Dragons" class geared towards preschoolers. DS#2 and #3 both started at 2 years of age. They had basically grown up in karate classes and knew what type of behavior was expected. They did incredibly well. DD has participated in a class or two with me as her personal attendant (DH and I also take/teach classes.) but she is too rowdy to join a class on her own at this time.

My ds started TKD at 9. We are very excited for him as he will be testing for his black belt recommended in August. TKD has been a great experience for him. He is ADHD and TKD has helped him learn self control and how to be respectfull of everyone (something we have worked on forever).
