My dd will be starting kindergarden this fall. She's my oldest and I am so undecided on weither to send her on the school bus on the first day or to take her myself. She's not going to know anyone on the bus and she has really never been in her school before. I've heard that there are volunteers to help them get to their classroom and make sure that they get where they belong. I think that I am more nervous about school than she is! Did you send your oldest on the bus the first day or did you take them. Please share your experiences, I need to hear about other kids first days of school.

I sent mine on the bus. They got to go visit the school before school actually started and we (him and both parents) got to ride around the block on an actual school bus so he would know what it was like. It helped that he was getting on the bus at the sitter's so he was with other kids he knew.

I was much more worried about it than he was.

My kids don't ride the bus but even if they did, the first day of school is so special! I would be taking them and walking them to class and taking lots of pictures (which I did with my oldest and will with my second oldest who starts this year). Then the first day that they rode the bus I'd be there with the camera as well. That's what I would do.

Mine all rode the bus. Well, the three that rode the bus anyway. My oldest 2 were taken by daycare and my 3rd skipped kindergarten all together.

My DH made fun of me, but I sent my DD on the bus, then went to school so I could meet the bus and greet her there. I was way more worried than she was! School actually suggested this for the sake of routine and so that the separation would be the same one day two as it was on day one otherwise it would be like a whole different situation for you and your child. Good luck, you will be way more worried than your baby is, it is tough, but amazing to watch them become schoolagers! Prepare for your child to be totally exhausted by the end of the day adn especially the end of the week!

Good luck!

i like the idea of sending her on the bus and meeting her there and explaining to her that its the first day and you are excited and want to see her room when she get there.. make if exciting and she will have no issues... kids are perceptive if your nervous she is more likely to be as well...

if your school does not have a night before school starts call and ask to bring her by to check things out.. our school has an open house the night before so they can put their stuff away for school.

My daughter rode the bus the first day of school and she loved it! She was so excited for that first bus ride! I took awesome pictures that day of her standing at the bus stop and I have a great one of her getting on the bus and turning around to wave bye to me.

My 7 1/2 yr ds went to a Catholic school for K. He was able to go on a little bus ride (with me) before school started. The first day of school, he rode it to school and we met him there to take pictures (that is what the school suggested).

My 6 yr ds went to public school for K and we rode the bus before school too but the morning of school, he got on the bus and that was it. I think it was different since his brother was with him!

Their first day of Kindergarten is such a big day for them I would want to be there!

DD went to a charter school for kindergarten so I had to drive her. However, she went to our neighborhood school for 1st grade and we're the last stop on the bus service. Let me tell you, there were a whole line of cars driving behind the bus that first day of school!

I wasn't one of those moms, though.

DD rode the bus the first day of school and she didn't know anyone. She sat next to the girl who ended up being her BEST FRIEND! I wouldn't have had DD miss out on that experience for anything.
