Around here, I see kids younger than my 9 y/o dd riding in the front seat of cars. I won't let my dd ride in the front seat of our older car because it doesn't have a passenger airbag shutoff, but our newer car does and once in a great while I'll let her ride up front. Not to pick on Alabama, but our carseat laws are very laxed (I don't think there are any carseat laws on the books here for kids over 5), so I was wondering what laws/recommendations there are for kids riding in the front seat of cars?

My 8, 9 & 10 yr olds all ride in the fron ot my van on occassion. We do have an automatic air bag shut off based on the passenger weight.

My granddaughter turn 12 in Jan and I just now started letting her ride in the front seat, every now and then.

I'm not a big fan of kids in the front seat. I just think it is safer in the back seat.

My ds just turned 11 and I am just letting him ride in the front seat. My dd is 7-1/2 and she rides once in a great while in front, when she does, the seat is all the way to the back and the back of the seat is down a little. I think in OH it is recommended that children 8 and under are in a booster seat. My dd was still using a booster seat in Kindergarten and her friend saw her and started laughing at her. After that, dd didn't want to sit in one, and she is tall for her age, so I just didn't make her anymore. I don't know if it is the law or just a recommendation, but I've seen commercials that say a child should be 4'9" to sit in the front.

I believe the recommendation is that children under age 12 are safest in the back seat of a car.

My children are 8 and 6. They do not ride in the front seat of my car. It is highly recommended that children under the age of 12 DO NOT ride in the front seat of cars with passenger side airbags.

I'm pretty sure my van recommends that they have to be 11 to ride in the front. Obviously my kids are way too little so they never have.
