That's sad. I still remember a girl in my Kindergarten class whose father was in jail! I can't remember the names of anyone else (this was 40 years ago!) but I can remember her first and last names just because of this. It really does follow the kids. Very sad.

i can tell it affectst the little boy he drives me nuts with some of his behavior but i always stop myself and remember he lived with an alcholic for sometime.. i just make sure i lay out the rules every time they come over and that seems to be helping..

I think it's so sad what adult things kids learn and know about at such early ages. My DS' first grade class toured the local jail a couple years ago and one of his classmates was telling how that's where they went to get his mom before and knew all about the place. I thought that was so sad.

It is sad when it is a normal part of a child's life. I know, when I worked at the kindergarten building a few years back, that at one point there were 3 kids that had at least one parent in jail - and one of those kids had both parents in jail. I wish parents would think about some of their actions when there is children involved.

That's very sad. My dd goes to school with a girl who has BOTH parents currently in prison! The girl and her brother live with a grandmother.
