I am just wondering how many others here do this? It doesn't get cold here til the end of October so I don't buy a bunch of clothes (and by then there will be some good sales). I do buy each of my children a new outfit for the 1st day of school. How 'bout you?

Yes, I can remember my Mom doing the same for me. Even now, a new shirt or new pants always makes me feel better.

I got my daughter a few new outfits. She LOVES clothes and is very excited about starting Kindergarten. She also grew out of most of her clothes so she needed them.

I have started going thru the boys closets so I can get an inventory of what they have and what they need-that way I am ready when stuff goes on sale and when MIL calls and asks. Thankfully they will be able to go a few months into school before they will probably need anything-besides socks and underwear, we are gonna get those in a few weeks. But I think I will try and find them each a new shirt for the first day of school.

My boys get a new shirt for the first day (they usually end up wearing it on school picture day, too) and new shoes, but that's it. The shoes are a necessity - they have outgrown their tennis shoes already (and they look like they have been through a war) but spend most of the summer in sandals so I haven't gotten new tennis shoes yet. I will go out and get some new school clothes once the weather starts getting cooler, but for the first few weeks (or more) they are wearing the same stuff they wore at the end of last year. Since they wear mostly play clothes all summer, their school clothes are still in good shape.

New sneakers - they outgrow them too fast.
and a new outfit of their choosing - shirts and shorts - but 99% of the time chosen from either the sale or clearance racks.

I always go school shopping for the first day of school. They can wear shorts for the first couple months and the last couple months, so I stock up on shorts that are on sale and then get a pair or two of jeans for them, depends on what the prices are. I also buy shirts, tennis shoes for them too.
