Honestly, my biggest concern with it all is the child. I live in a very large city, and it's a huge ISD, so I'm sure that someone is coming for this child, but I just cannot imagine what must be running through her little head. How confusing and intimidating to be in that situtation.
I do know that she'll get it - even in my early 20's, I was speaking Spanish extremely well after only two weeks, but I could also read and use my dictionary and every other tool known to man. I have been majorly tied up with a huge project and haven't been in the classroom all week, so my information is from other parents and the children that I know, including my own.
This is my problem with my school volunteer work - I want to fix everything and it's hard to realize that there aren't instant solutions to every problem. To some problems - there aren't solutions at all. I keep trying to remember this, but I still struggle when I see children not getting what they deserve. It's hard to believe in this huge ISD there isn't a class for this poor girl to get acclimated in, with a Korean bilingual teacher, and learn some basic words before she is just thrown to the wolves, so to speak.
