My MIL just called and is putting me in charge of making her wedding invitations! THey are getting married in July and I am the Matron of Honor. They are having an outdoor wedding and then a Pig Roast and a local top 40's band. It is going to be huge. But my MIL is very very casual. She may even be wearing shorts She also has no color theme. She said that she bought white-off white invitation paper for it.

HELP!!! I am lost on where to even start.

Do you have an Staples or Office Max near you? If you do go in there and take a look at their invitaition section, they have some great ideas and you may find something there. Also another idea is to take the invitaion paper that she has and some vellum, print the information on the vellum, give it the tear look around the edges and then punch a hole at the top of the paper and vellum and tie with a ribbon. I have done these for baby shower invites before and it looks very pretty but casual.

I was going to say the same thing about the vellum and ribbon. I have made these before and they are cute.
We made my sister's invites for her wedding and did some dry embossing on each one. That is also something that could be done to spice it up a bit.

How many do you think that you will have to make?
Are you going to need RSVP cards and other inserts too for directions etc....?
My wheels are turning so I will let you know if I think of something else.

You could also print a black and white picture of your MIL and her future husband on the invitation paper and then add the velum with the invitation wording over the top. This would make it personal. Depending on the ribbon used to attach the velum to the other paper you could dress it up or down.

If you have a lot to do, my suggestion would be to take your paper in and have a company do the copying and cutting for you. This will save you lots of time (especially the cutting part)!

I've made four different sets of wedding invitations (one set being my own), but these were my favorites. They were for my best friend and her fiance. I took a photo of them together, made it black and white on the computer and cropped it into an oval...then faded it out so it wouldn't show too strongly through the vellum. Then I printed the invitation wording on the vellum, laid the vellum on top, punched two small holes in the top using the top of the oval as a guide and used black sheer ribbon to attach the vellum and cardstock. The only cutting for these is just cutting your card stock and vellum in half...then you can buy the envelopes at an office supply store or Wal-Mart. You can also do a search for "invitation wording" on the internet and come up with exactly how you want to word them.

I made theese for my sisters shower. You could do something like this wth flowers or have her pick out some paper and stamp she likes.

Oh my gosh ladies these are all fantastic ideas! I didn't expect so many ideas! Thank you thank you thank you!! Unfortunately they are having over 300 people but I am not sure if they are all getting invites or not. Just word of mouth that is how they work.

Hey I now have a project with my vellum! Yay! Now if I can just do this on a budget I will see how it works. When I am done I will post one so you can all see.

Thanks again! And any other suggestions are definately welcomed!

I did the vellum idea from above (with the picture on cardstock, vellum invitation on top of it) for our wedding invitations. Well, we never used them. (another story) Anyway, I did quarter pages (ended up about 4x6 size - perfect to frame one for your MIL to keep). They were still very pretty and I didn't think they were too small. For 300 people, you won't be sending out 300 invitations unless they only know single people. So figure out how many invitations you need, divide by 4 and let Kinko's do the work. They'll even cut them for you if you want.

Another idea is to make a digital scrapbook page of pictures, invitation wording, etc, and then have them printed as photos. 4x6 or 5x7 you wouldn't have to do the traditional "you are cordially invited to..." wording, but you could do something more like

______ & ______
A Union of Everlasting Love
July #, 2007

And then on a small business card have the details of where, when, reception details, etc. Just another thought...
