I have decided to take Grandma's old photo albums from the 50's-90's and re do them. They are all falling apart, the pics are falling out of the pages and getting all mixed up. Every time she has visitors the books come out and a trip down memory lane is taken.

My plan is to do one scrapbook with just a few pictures of everyone in the immediate family - one page per person 4 pictures each showing them at different times in their lives. I will do one spread of all the most recent grandkids since they are all under 5. I have never done a scrap book before - I don't have a creative bone in my body so I''ll be doing a lot of "idea borrowing." I would like to do one for each book but there are a couple hundred pics - I did some supply shopping for my SS and could not get over how expensive it is.

Anyway the remainder of the books will be put into new albums and I will put the label maker to use by printing out labels copying what is written on the backs of the pictures. Grandma won't always be around to tell us who that picture is of so I had her identify all the blank ones for me.

She is so excited and so am I.

Hooray!! I'm addicted to scrapbooking!! I wish I lived closer, I'd come over and help get you started. Buy a 12X12 album, some plain paper, adhesive, and a cutter than cuts 12X12 paper. I'd cut a piece of paper a little bit bigger than the photo and glue the picture to the paper and then place the picture on the 12X12. Blacks, tans, and dark colors look really good on a heritage type album.
Let me know if I can be of any help from out here in California!!
Have fun with it!

I did a ton of scrapbooks for family last year. I am also in California, but if you need any help, I'm here. It's super easy to overspend on scrapbook stuff, but there are really great deals to be had. Also, a bunch of the stuff thats out there, you don't really need. You might want to sign up on email lists for the different craft stores or scrapbook stores around your area. You will get tons of coupons. I just got one for JoAnns that was 40% off one item! If you find you really want to get a bunch of supplies, you may want to try Frugalities.com, Craigslist, or EBay. All of those have GREAT deals.

Scrapbooking is so much fun and addictive though! Good luck!

YAY Melissa! How much fun will this be?? Make sure to show us your progress. I wish we lived closer, I would sit and scrap with you. It's so much fun to do with someone else

As I mentioned before a LOT of my stuff I get at the $1 stores, or a lot of craft stores have $ sections now. Or watch for clearance stuff. Joann's had all their summer stuff on clearance ( 50-75% off at my store ), and that includes their papers too. WalMart has a fairly good selection of things inexpensively, as does Target, & Shopko if you have any of those. Also remember to check out other places of the stores.....other depts (other crafts aisles, fabric places, etc) carry the same things as the scrapbook depts, but sometimes cheaper or better clearance.

Also, check out the board. There are a TON of great ladies that have cool stuff up for trade. That's always an inexpensive way to increase what you have also.

PS ~ I LOVE THE STUFF, and used it the other day (I will have to post a pic )

What great fun. It is so much fun and rewarding. I dont spend much for scrapbooking supplies. I get awesome chipboard stickers/elements at my local Dollar Tree. I have also just discovered Joann's as the most coolest store that has the best deals. They have a $1section and frequent clearance sections. I bought a lot of items for 50 cents a piece. I also found a cool pad of pocket full of posies paper (the 6 X 6 size) for $5.97 for 42 sheets. The regular price on this is $15. Good luck and enjoy the project. A few years back I took all my mothers photos from all her life and took them out of magnetic photo albums that hurt the pictures and put them in scrapbook binders. I didnt get fancy but like was already mentioned a lot of the photos I just simply matted and used some sticker embelishments. The important thing is getting photos labeled.
