Ok so I want to try scrapbooking and I have no idea how to begin. I was given a scrapbook for my babyshower when Sammy was born and I am just scared. Should I get a kit to start with? What kind of stuff do I need?

I'm still scared!! Help please

Welcome! So glad that you are taking the leap into the scrapbooking world!

I think that getting a kit to start is a great idea! It gives you all of the stuff you need to complete a few pages.

Here is what I started out with:

Scrapbook Album
Journaling Pens
Scissors
Stickers
Glue Sticks
Cardstock

Really those are the basic things that you need. Whatever questions you have please feel free to ask. We are here to help you. I think one of the more rewarding things on here is being able to teach and help someone who is just starting out. Whether it be starting with scrapbooking or starting a new technique. Can't wait to see what you do!

Don't be scared.

Basics for starting:
-paper cutter
-good scissors
-adhesive
-cardstock
-a few embellishments (you might try the Wish RAK thread in the swaps & trades subforum here)

I think that's probably the least you could get by with. Some tips. Use the 40% coupons at Hobbly Lobby, Joanns, Michael's, Archivers, etc to see what you might like. Try some of the sketches in the challenges subforums. Your pages don't have to match exactly; a sketch is a starting point. CASE others' work; CASE = Copy And Share with Everyone. And always feel free to ask questions!

So I just snuck in the baby's room to grab the album that I got at the baby shower. It is a baby memories Kit Makes 20 pages.
Contents:
1- 12x12 postbound album w/10sheets of white paper
2- Printed Mat Pages
8- sheets of 12 x 12 reversible patterned paper
8- sheets of 8 1/2 x 11 reversible colored paper
4 yards sheer ribbon
10 frames
10 tags
20 die cuts
18 stickers

What are diecuts? Looking at this thing is making me nervous. lol
What are embelishments? Goodness I must sound like an idiot. What's a journaling pen? Is it a special pen? So I need more stuff?

Diecuts are cut out shapes. Embellishments are anything you add to embellish a page or card - ribbon, brads, eyelets, buttons, (tampons - LOL Sonja!), rubons, stickers, etc, etc. Journaling pens are pens that are archival safe/made for scrapbooking and are available in a variety of colors.

Sounds like you have everything that you need! A journaling pen is just a pen that is acid free and won't eventually deteriorate your paper or photos. I have already used a regular pen. I am not too worried about that.

Start with a few pictures and the die cuts (which I see Jess explained about them already) and piece it together! You do not need a whole lot to get started with.

Here is the first page that I ever did:

Pretty simple to start.

I am SOOO glad I started after the "cutting around people" thing went out of style!

Oh, yeah, one more thing, be forewarned that this is a very addictive hobby and takes some creative financing. You're husband may began to wonder where all the food and clean underwear has disappeared to.

And, Sonja, go check your PM box!
