I have a question for you. When you give a hand made gift do you think that the receiver feels like they have to make a nice comment about it?

I ask because....I am just being little miss low self-confidence today and I just got a call from the school nurse (she always calls about blood sugars at lunch time) and she said "Thank you for the cards, THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL". I thought they were nice but I have done and seen much better work. I am sure she likes them like I said I am just been down a little lately. But I just want to know your opinion on how you respond to others work. Do you just not say anything if you don't like it? Do you only compliment it if you like it?

Oh, BTW I made the cutest little card for the kids bus driver...I used my cricut and the doodlecharms cart and the cricut software to make a bus shaped card and I stuck Sajid's and Madison's pics in the windows....and I didn't take a picture of it Oh well...I guess I will have to make another one LOL

I'm not a scrapper but I do make handmade gifts from time to time. And I always say something extra special when I see I am given a hand made gift - simply because I know how much more time and effort was spent in making it than simply picking it out at the store.

I'm sorry you are having a low day today.

But in response to your questions, I comment on handmade gifts alot because I love the thought and time that went into. Plus I have never been given a BAD handmade gift...

Oops, another question:

Some receivers may feel like they HAVE to comment about it, but then again people comment about it because they really do LIKE IT....

I always try to comment on handmade stuff b/c I know how much time went into it and like Sam said, it's usually higher quality.

Do I feel like I have to comment? No, a "thank you" will suffice. However, the time my dad gave me a turkey made out of plastic canvas and yarn was trying...

Hey, I never said higher quality.. But actually that is also true. So yeah I like to receive homemade gifts more than store bought, but my parents just like to give money and my sister fails at making toast (23)...

I love homemade gifts. It kinda makes me feel more loved because someone actually put the time effort and love into it. I always say something about it.

Regardless of whether something is handcrafted or not,, If I don't actually LIKE it, I will word my thank you so that it's NOT a lie

If you gave me cards that I didn't think were 'beautiful', I'd say something like

OH, Thank you! Wow, that was SO nice of you to put such work into my gift, I really appreciate them'

So, I don't think folks will 'lie'.. if she said they were beautiful, then to her, they WERE

and with most people we ALWAYS our worst critics, YOU can see where they could've been better or where there are small flaws,,, SHE doesn't see those at all ,,, mho

I think maybe you are being a little too hard on yourself. It sounds like she really appreciated them not just saying something to be polite. Sometimes I post stuff on here that I don't think is my "best" work and then those are ususally the ones that get the most positive comments from you guys. Your work is always quality and even if you felt you did them in a rush they still turned out great
That bus sounds super cute!
