I have been thinking about taking one. They are offering a month free to adults here at a local martial arts studio. I thought: why not try it right?

No I have never taken a class and neither have my boys. I'm thinking about doing it for my 6 year old, to help with some of his low self-esteem and aggression!

I've never taken one, but I would love to! I think it would be great to learn how to protect yourself, as well as getting to kick the crap out of something!

I've taken classes for 5 years now as my health has allowed. I LOVE it! DS#1 first started taking classes when he was 4 yo. DS#2 &#3 started when they had their second birthdays. DH started about 3 years after DS#1 did and I started shortly after that. DD even takes classes now when DH or I can be there to direct and oversee her. We study Okinawan Karate (Ryukyu kempo karate) and pressure point theory (kyusho). DH and I were made assistant instructors about 2 years ago. DH and DS#1 have their black belts. I'm a brown belt (I would have been a black belt by now if I hadn't taken a medical leave). DS#2 plans to test for his black belt in January.

I recommend self-defense classes to everyone! I have taught several self-defense classes in churches, schools and to mothers' groups. You can learn a lot in a short amount of time if the class is well-taught.

I think you and the boys would really enjoy it. And, a month of free classes! That's a great way to test the water.

I'd love to hear about what classes are offered. If you PM me the school name and/or instructors' names, I might be able to find out more about the instructors, too. I think there were some people at one of our seminars that have schools out west. And, our sensei travels all over the world, so he may know them.
