Walking/Treadmill Workout Schedule?

Sorry if this has been posted and answered previously....
I have had a treadmill for several years, but it has hardly ever been used except to collect dust. I just recently had DH move it in to a part of the house that I will actually use it. So for the last week I have been walking on it for about 20 minutes each morning, about 1 mile.
I would like to know where I can find a "schedule" of some sort as to how much/how often/how far I should be trying to walk on it. I don't do any other type of exercise and I don't want to go gung ho (spelling??) and burn myself out. My goals are to lose weight and gain some energy.
Can anyone send me in the correct direction? Maybe a podcast, book or a website?
Again, I am not an exercise nut like some of you are. I just want to start slow, but steady. Something that I can actually keep up with.
