This time last year ... how far where you running at a time? One mile? Two miles? 25 miles? Inquiring minds. No really, I have noticed your progress and was just wondering where you were a year ago.

Mel, I am so sorry I missed this. I was looking for another post and this one was right at the bottom. Sorry about that!

Last year, at this time, I was struggling with getting past 3 miles. I had run in 3 or 4 5K road races by this point and thought I could challenge myself and start training for the half marathon here in the city in April. By late January, mid February time frame I bailed. I had a VERY hard time getting to four miles and feeling comfortable there. The weather could have been a factor, in retrospect. My running partner (at the time it was not Kristina ~ whom I run with now) and I were running in snow, ice and cold. Since then I had to just keep plugging away and over the course of the summer, I have slowly increased my distance to 4, then 4 1/2, then five, and now 6 1/2 being my longest distance. I did run 7 miles twice with dh, but I haven't done that in awhile! I also completed an 8K Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day. That was exciting for me. I am now looking for a 10K race and my running partner Kristina lives ten miles from me and our goal is to run from one of our homes to the other sometime before the half marathon in April! Should be fun.

It hasn't been a walk in the park. It really is a mind over a matter thing too. So much so I feel the difference in my discipline this year over last year.

Thanks for asking!

That is sooo interesting (sorry it's taking me awhile to get back as well ). I so admire runners and I always think, "Wow! I could really enjoy that." Of course than I try and I rethink my ways. I do admire you people though.

It is nice to have that time to yourself, while out doing something productive and good for your state of mind and body too. It also helps me think about things and put issues in perspective. It's very therapeutic in so many ways!

I do need to start up my walking again. I was doing great last spring / summer and then DH was laid off and my world turned upside down. Of course now our roads are a mess! Let me see what I can manage. I'm off this entire week -- surely I can get something in.

I have to admit, I do like running in the cooler temps. Try it!
