Well, I have been reading these boards like crazy and think you women are awesome as far as motivation. I am needing to lose between 15-20 pounds. In the past I would do treadmill religiously several days a week and do that for a few months. Then I would backslide and not do anything for awhile. The holidays snuck up on me big time this year and just ate and enjoyed all the goodies without doing any exercise. Now the clothes are tighter, but thankfully haven't outgrown them (shocked about that actually). I just got a Wii and the Wii Fit to go along with it. I am LOVING my Wii Fit. It is actually making exercise fun. I am trying to do the treadmill and the Wii Fit whenever possible at least several times a week. I have just started, but again looking to really lose the weight and keep it off this time. I am also trying to eat healthier. I am trying to cut out the junk in the diet. Of course I can't totally deprive myself and will have something that isn't totally healthy every now and then, but just don't want to abuse that and let it be more a treat when I do have something sweet. I am trying to eat small meals every couple of hours. It has been hard the last couple of days, but am really trying hard. Any words of wisdom, motivation, advice, anything, I am all ears.

I am right there with you, I do really good for awhile and then I find a reason to stop. I know healthwise I need to lose the weight and am ready to get serious so any tips/suggestions would be much appreciated.

We got the wii fit at Christmas too and we love it... I just wish there was a way of doing the aerobics for a longer period than what they offer!

So I don't have much advice.... just know that there are lots of people out there in the same boat as you and lets hope we both do it this time

I'm there too. I did real good walking our neighborhood with ds in a stroller, but I haven't been able to get back into a schedule lately. I have about 8 completely different workout tapes so I don't get bored, but I still have to get off my fat butt and do them. I am eating very healthy right now and I am also eating about 4 smaller meals per day. Which works great for me if I exercise too. I really learned alot about fitness from reading Covert Baileys books, especially the one with Lea Bishop called Fit or Fat Woman.

I tend to get discouraged because I normally don't lose any weight or inches for the first 2-3 months of a fitness program. If I can stick with it for longer than that I lose both, but the intervening weeks with no progress make it hard to stay consistent. A couple of things that have helped me in my past exercising successes: make an appointment with yourself to exercise at the same time of day, do it when it's quiet and calm in the house (the kids can watch a movie or while they are at school etc.), have a nice cold energy drink/fruit smoothie/or half-frozen low-fat yogurt cup waiting for the end of the workout, and leave yourself time for a luxurious long shower after.

Keep us posted on how it goes and thanks for your motivation for me! I think I'll go pop in a bellydance tape right now!

I am there too, I have the wii fit, did great all summer working out religously with it and walking about five miles a day, and then I lost interst or will poser or both and now I am back to "happy fat" rather than "stressed out sort of thin"! I wish I could stick to it, I have in the past only to stop again, after theholidays I tried Weight watchers again, I think I lasted three days. I just like to eat. Now I think. maybe when the weather gets nicer, and I probably will walk because I enjoy the alone time at night and my and ds walk in the morning with him in the stroller and he likes it,, just always seems so easy for others! I did see the Dirty Dancing workout video and was interested because it is one of my favorite movies, but I would just rather play on the computer or read. Ugh!

Hello and welcome (back) !

Making exercise fun is definitely the key at staying motivated...so good for you for finding something you like. I also find that changing things up and trying something new keeps the spark fresh too!

In terms of how I stay motivated, here are a few things I keep in the back of my mind.

I always keep in mind that you need to BURN more than you consume. So if you are snacking all day, than you need to make a conscious effort to work off some of that that day, don't leave it "for tomorrow".

I often joke with my friends at the Y and say "I work out, so I can overindulge". Part of that is in humor, but really I have this 'thing' for food, so if I am working out and keeping busy, I consider my food intake to be negative calories!

Another thing I find motivating and it helps keep me on track is that I am finished having babies. I will have this body for the rest of my life. AND time is working against me, so I have to work hard to keep things lean, mean and tight! That does help encourage me to keep going to the gym all week long!

Lastly, for motivation, I take pictures of myself every 4-6 months (in a bikini) to see progress. I keep them in a file with my measurements. I like seeing the transformation and seeing the inches lost is definitely a huge reward!

I think you can stay motivated with all of us in your corner. Come back and share your struggles and successes with us. We check in EVERY Friday...and support and encourage one another throughout the year! Join us! http://mommysavers.com/boards/mind-b...day-check.html

I'm with Christy on her ideas!

I think that one of the biggest things you can do for yourself is understanding the difference between indulging and overindulgence. It is okay to let yourself have a couple of treats, but don't see it as blowing the day! For example, I eat like a horse but I usually spread it out throughout the day. If let's say I have a huge piece of cake at lunch, I don't let myself think that I've blown the day so I can eat whatever I want the rest of the day and start again tomorrow. Does that make sense?

I also think it is a great idea to sign up for an event whether it is a run, walk, bike ride or triathlon. Having an event to train for is very motivating.

Good luck and we are here for you!
