I have had several root canals and crowns over the years.

Well yesterday, I got a knot on the inside of my gum. Not hurting but pretty big and just bothering me in general. I call the dr. and he told me to come in at 4:00.

They took a x-ray, and he seems to think it is a problem with a root canal that I had done about 15 or more years ago.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen, and how could it happen on tooth that has already had a root canal.

Seems like if they didn't get all of the root, it would have cause a problem before now.

If anyone could shed some information on this, I sure would appreciate it.

The Dr. is not saying a word!!!

But I have to go back tomorrow to get the root canal redone. This also means messing up my crown!

You should ask your dentist. Ask specific questions. If he won't answer your questions, I'd find another dentist.

I had the same problem, on a root canal that was done 13 years ago. Root canals do fail and that is what happened to mine. They did not get all of the root. So after careful consideration of whether to do the root canal or have the tooth pulled, I opted for extraction and I now have a bridge. I do not like root canals and could not go through it again. Good Luck!!

Actually, this dr. I saw yesterday is not my regular dr. And the dr. that is re-doing the root canal tomorrow is pretty cool, so he probably will answer my questions. But I am just worried and tomorrow seems so far away!

Thanks! Yea, I am not a big fan of root canals either. But since I have about 10 it is pretty common for me! I have so much money invested in my teeth, that I am going for the re-do on this one.

Thanks for putting my mind at ease, that this is not so uncommon as I thought!

Yeah I've had several root canals and I have heard over time they do need to be done again and the crowns also. Really disapointing since i have so many to know they might need to be replaced.

I used to work for a dentist and unfortunately this can happen. Did a dentist do the root canal or an endodontist? Dentists have more of a failure rate than endodontists. Endodontists charge so much more to do root canals b/c of specialized tools and advanced training.

Actually it wasn't my root canal after all. (and endodontists did do it)

But I have a gum disease that somehow infected the tooth. Now I am typing with 8 stitches in my mouth, but I have my loratabs close by

So their won't be no pain tonight
