I need some advice.

On Monday I was involved in a non serious car accident. I was stopped for a bus and a taxi hit me going 40 mph from the back. My car held up well (his was badly damaged and he was charged). Immediately I got a really bad headache, almost a migraine. I told dh (who was dropped at the accident scene by my Dad) that I had such a bad 'stress headache' as soon as it happened. I went to the Dr the next day. He gave me tylonol3 (I can't take aspirin or ibuprofen because of stomach ulcer issues). It hasn't helped at all. I went to another Dr. yesterday at an 'accident clinic' (I never knew there was such a thing until yesterday) and he also said it's perfectly normal. I doesn't feel normal. I'm taking tylonol 3 every 4 hours. It feels like a steel rod is going through the top of my head. It even feels like my brain is 'miss-firing'. I am getting deja vu experiences 6-8 times a day. I feel weird 'neurological feelings that I know aren't normal like everything I've done I did before. I'm just not thinking straight. The 2nd Dr. said this is normal too and is a symptom of the whiplash. It just doesn't seem normal that I can't stop the pain (unless I'm lying still in a dark room) and that weird things are happening in my mind.

Anyone else have this or who can reassure me that it is normal. Even though 2 Dr.'s told me so, it just doesn't seem right. I don't want to wait 8 hours in emergency to have a 3rd Dr. tell me the same thing but I worry that something worse is wrong.

Do you have a regular doctor...is that the first doctor you saw? If so, I would probably call his/her office and explain how you don't feel that everything is right etc And see what they suggest. I know for me and my personality, I would do that before going to an ER.

I've never heard of those symptoms before from a whiplash, but that doesn't mean it's not possible. I could just not know. But I have known several people with whiplash plus of course there was the woman who sued me for rear ending her when SHE got whiplash, and the ones I've known have never described anything like that. I do know that the muscle pain and headaches are common but I've never heard of the weird thoughts thing.

Ok, I just got back from seeing Dr. number #2 again and a physiotherapist. Apparently it's stage 2 whiplash and there is swelling in the muscles all up through my nose, sinuses, ear, and head. It's the worse headache I've ever had. The swelling can cause other issues like I have too. I feel emotionally better knowing it's completely normal. Now I know that I should be icing it instead of using heat pads. I was making it worse. Yipes.

Holy cow you were heatng it?!?! I can't believe the doctors didn't tell you to use ice on it. Any time you have swelling - sprained ankle, back pain, whatever - ice it. With back pain, sometimes heat can FEEL better - but you are doing no favors. Hope you feel better soon.

I don't know if it will help since the headache is from whiplash, but when I have a migraine or bad headache my chiropractor says put heat on your feet and ice where it hurts. It takes a while but it usually works. I put the heating pad on the bottom of my feet.

You mean she hit you and then she sued you? Please tell me she didn't win. That's my biggest fear that somehow this whole thing is going to get turned around even though I was the one at a complete stop.

No I rear ended a person that then pushed their car into her car. Yup!! I caused a 3 car pileup.

Totally off topic here..............Of course the funny thing was there was NO damage to her car and only the imprint from a screw on the car I hit. (I just started from a stop and wasn't going very fast) The person I actually hit was fine but the lady in front sued and said she had whiplash. I of course have no idea if she was really hurt or not but my insurance company got ALL of her medical records and any evidence of ANY anxiety or antidepressants she'd ever taken. I personally was really uncomfortable with that because I'm not sure what that would have to do with her suing them, but I even got to see all her medical records!! Weird!! Then they found out she'd played tennis and so they were using all this against her. Made me not want any info in my medical charts from now on. I think my insurance company finally settled with her and gave her a small amount of money but they sure made her work for it.
