How do you manage to keep up your exercise routine when hard times hit? I know I had started working out last summer and the DH was laid off, forcing me to return to the work force, and my entire routine, goals, everything was shot? This spring I'm working out a lot more and, while I'm very busy, I do not have the stress that I did last year. I was just wondering how people work through problems like I did last year?

I am SO with you on this one! As soon as life gets any type of hectic, exercise is the first thing to go for me. And I know it really should be the 1st thing on my mind at a time like that! I have a lot of trouble keeping myself motivated, so it seems like any excuse is a good excuse to not do it.

But also like you, now that is slightly warming up, I am being more active again. Trying to take ds for a walk after work every day, parking a little farther from the office, etc.

Here is to hoping both of us can get our mojo back!

When I make a commitment to something, I find the time for it; especially for my health. It's an investment for my future, as well as an example for my kids. Dh and I have always been active so it's just something we've always done.

Single parenting with a deployed spouse and a child in half day kindergarten has certainly proved to be a huge hurdle for me and my fitness but like I said, I am committed to it so at some point during the day I make time for it. If I have to get up earlier to knock it out before my day gets underway I do that too. This is why I like having equipment at home, as well as a gym membership. Things come up so instead of giving myself an excuse not to "go to the gym", I instead can just go downstairs. It's also good to have access to gym equipment at home for the times your kids are sick and unable to go to the child watch at the gym or to school....you can still get a small work out down at home while they are resting/napping.

There are, certainly, days when I simply can't find the time for it, but I never let that snowball into days of inactivity. At some point my body is craving the physical activity and my conscience is KILLING me...so again, I make sure I do what I can from home if going to the gym is not an option

Besides.....it's a GREAT stress reliever to just be able to get a cardio work out in if nothing else!

We are not really experiencing rough times in our household but I get up at 5am to get on the treadmill or workout.

This tends to be me too! I let exercise go when stress enters my life. Like this week there are so many projects I want to do around here that I'm making exercising my last priority. BUT in all reality I am exercising because of the projects I'm doing (painting, raking the lawn, gardening, moving things, etc.) -- when I'm sweating from what I'm doing, I know I'm working it!
