I REALLY need to dye my hair. My family suggested the wash out kinds and I'm fine with that, but I'm wondering, do I need to really do the test every time? I did it with a different hair color I purchased but didn't use. Every once in a while I think I have time to color my hair, but I still haven't done the skin test first... do I need to?? Do you do it? Is it something that has to be done every time???

Thanks!

I'd recommend doing it if you change brands - just to make sure there's not an ingredient in the new brand that you're sensitive to.
I don't do it when I use the same brand every time.

I've been coloring my own hair for about two years, and have never done the patch test I know, bad! But you really should at least before you try a new kind/color.

I do it with a new brand simply because I have had allergic reactions to some of them.

I highlight my hair and use 2 different brands. I never do the skin test, but I have never been allergic to anything except medicine.

I did have an allergic reaction to Nair once and will NEVER use it again. But tried a skin test with a different brand of hair color... I guess I'll go ahead and do this one too! Just don't want to use too much - want to make sure I have enough to do my hair too. (last time I spilled it...)

I know they say you should...allergic reactions and time test (highlights) and all, but I have been coloring my hair well over 10 years and I haven't done one in that long

How funny. I'd just posted a question about hair dyes in our Product Talk forum about 1/2 hr. before I saw this.

I never did a skin test in the over 10 years that I colored my hair at home...LOL. If you have sensitive skin, sure...you might want to. I never bothered with it.
