So the time has come for me to buy new clothes. My current wardrobe consists of jeans and black shirts--some t-shirts, mostly nicer black tops. I'm looking to get a little more creative and move beyond the t-shirts.

Any ideas?

It really varies so much person to person...depends on your lifestyle, the weather in your area etc

What does 'more creative' mean to you? You might just want to go to your favorite stores, see what is out there, try some things that way. What about cotton button down shirts/blouses?

For me, I wear dark jeans or slacks almost every day. I'm not a huge fan of t-shirts, and I tend to layer them (short t-shirt on top of a long t-shirt for casual wear...or under a sweater for dressier). I wear polo shirts more than t-shirts, it's just what I'm comfortable in. I wear a lot of thin cotton sweaters - all year long. So I have cardigans, sweater sets, short sleeve, long sleeve, turtlenecks etc I like to be able to dress things up and down. I'm a fan of the white cotton button down shirt for women - it's so versatile IMO! So it's a must have in my closet.

I'm pretty much a classic dresser...I think you can buy things that last a really long time in that sense, instead of just a season or two. I'm not a fan of colors (I tend to dress in neutrals - black, dark denim, gray, brown etc), but if you are, that's something you could try or adding some patterns to your wardrobe.

I'm a solids girl. I don't wear many patterns. They are too trendy.

My must haves are: black trousers which can be dressed up or down; a light weight cardigan (black); colored camisoles; dark denim jeans; wedges; and fitted blouses which can be dressed up or down depending on your accessories (scarves, jewelry, etc)

A more feminine tee like a scoop neck or puff sleeve looks cute without feeling too dressed up. I pair them with a knit skirt or pants.

I don't do t-shirts, unless they are under a button down shirt!

I love button shirts, you can dress them up or down.

Go to kohl's, they have some really nice casual pull over shirts.

Do you have Talbot's near you? They have AWESOME sales. I have an outlet near me, as well as regular stores, and I go there almost every week. Great basics, high quality clothing - awesome customer service etc

Okay, since I usually only see photos of you from the neck up, it's hard to know what you'd like, but here are some of my staples for this fall (I'm posting pics because it's easier to show than describe! LOL!)

I just got one of these in dark gray and I love it! The great thing is that I can wear my summer tanks and tees under it (and it's long enough to cover my butt!)

you could wear a shorter one like this with babydoll type tops

vests are in style this year. I like this fitted one with a long tee.

pants like these are a great alternative to jeans

and I love the skinny jeans inside of mid-height to below the knee boots, but I know not everyone is comfortable in them!

No Kohls and no Talbots. I will more than likely be hitting Target, JCPenney's, Herbergers, Old Navy/Gap. There is also a newer store (just opened in the past couple of years) called Kato/Cato? A lot of my friends like that store.

Thanks for the pics, Lee. I'm not sure about the vest. I know it's in style, but I wore something like that in 8th grade. I'm feeling old...lol. I do like that top cardigan thingy. What exactly is it called? Those skinny jeans are cute. I will have to find some and see if I can pull it off.

I don't do well when it comes to shopping for myself. This is really going to be an adventure...
