Hi all, I just got new eyeglasses with a prescription that is a bit stronger. I'm trying to adjust to them but have been having some eye strain.

Anyone have this problem, how long did it take you to adjust? It wasn't my regular doctor beacuse I panicked and thought I needed glasses that day and my doctor was closed. I ended up at one of those stores in the mall that get you glasses quick (but certainly not cheap). I got them on Friday and I have 1 week to exchange them. any advise appreciated

ooohhh wow. I have never had that problem. Now, I haven't worn glasses in a while, but when I did I don't remember having to adjust too much. I wear contacts now..and they are fine..the same day. Good luck!!

I got my first pair of glasses a month ago. I had put off going to the eye doctor for a while. I had eye strain for about a week. My eyes were so use to straining to see they had to adjust to not having to strain. If that makes sense. My doctor told me it was normal. I wore them for about four hours the first day then worked my way up an hour a day. I hope it goes away soon for you.

My new ones bothered me for a day or two but them went away. I would give it two or three days then call the doctor. ITs farely normal to have to adjust to a stronger perscription.

When I get a new prescription, it takes me about a week for my eyes to adjust. My eyes strain and I get nausea really bad. After that one week, it gets better. My last one, my left eye actually improved, so I had to adjust to a weaker prescription and my right eye was the same as before.

I would get them rechecked. One time, Walmart put the wrong lenses in backwards, AND in the wrong eyepiece. My last pair, Eyemasters gave me the wrong prescription. I always had problems, but thought it was me. It wasn't until my regular lens checkup with my main eyedoctor, that I found out they did this. He told me it was a huge problem with that location, and he's had problems with Lenscrafters. By this time, of course, the warranty had expired. I would get a second opinion.

Can dark get darker?

Try wearing them first thing in the AM, try wearing them for a few hours at a time and building up if you need to.

If they are super awful for you and they just don't seem right at all, go back and have the optician(the person that SELLS glasses) re-check the prescription.

I would really give it the full week to try to adapt to the new RX.

Do you have any astigmatism correction or prism in your lenses? Either of those can make a HUGE difference in getting used to them. It is even poss. that you may just need them adjusted differently--is it a fairly strong RX? In strong RX's the material used, the distance the frames are sitting from your face, how much the frame is curved (called "face form") where the frames sit on your face (because glasses lenses are meant to be seen through a center point on the lens and moving them up or down can distort/change your RX). Are they single vision or is there a bifocal? (and if so, what kind--line, no-line,etc.)

I have been ABOC certified (American Board of Opticianary Certivied--optician certification)since 1992--If you know your RX, I can prob. answer more questions for you....I also have a lot of years in retail and private optometry experience......ask away...

I just have a regular prescription that is fairly lite. Not even sure what it is, I'm going to call the store and get it. I made an appointment with my regular doctor tonight and hopefully he will be able to help me out. I wish I hadn't panicked and been in such a rush, I probably would have been more rational about it. If I find out my prescription, I'll let you know.

It's very annoying that I have 1 week to do some form of exchange and even then they may charge a restocking fee. What if there doctor gave me the wrong prescription? I guess I will see what my guy has to say and report back to ya.

If their doctor gave you the wrong RX, they would have to remake it for you.

I am not sure what place you went to but one week sounds really short for exchange/adaptation. You might want to speak with the manager and explain that you are having some problems and see if they are willing to extend it if need be.

FYI- they won't read your RX to you over the phone but if you go in, they will give you a copy of it--it's a law. Or your doctor could call the first doctor and get it over the phone for you (but he can't give you a copy of another doctors RX, it would be just for his record). (but they can read that off of your glasses---they should call to verify the RX though to make sure your glasses are cut to what your RX should be)

Thank heavens I went in to my regular Doctor last night. Not only did they give me the wrong prescription, they gave it to me in the wrong direction. Apparantly, my eyes have gotten a step better (yay for me). My Doctor said he definately doesn't want me wearing those glasses. I got a prescription from him and went back to Sterling and they are remaking them for me. It will take at least a week though, which is what I was trying to avoid in the first place. I guess that's what I get for trying to rush things, I should have just went to my guy in the first place. There really is more of a human side when you go into a doctors office instead of a retail store for glasses. The sales lady kept changing the things she said and they were taking me for a ride. I'll never go there again, that's for sure.

my prescription is: D.V.; O.D. -100 (spherical) -050 (cylindrical) 180 axis/ O.S. -50 (spherical) -050 (cylindrical) 180 axis. Is it common that vision would get better in some cases? If my prescription is now lighter, will it feel weird with new lighter Rx glasses? Thanks!
