so i suffer from severe dry itchy winter skin. as soon as it started getting cold here my skin is has been a problem. my skin is dry, flaky, itchy, and sometimes even cracks and bleeds. i have tried putting lotion on immediatly after getting out of the shower, and within an hour and its all dry again. i'm tried different lotions and stuff but nothing seems to work. so i am looking for anyone with any suggestions on what i can do. and please dont recommend eucerin, i think its greasy and gross. head to toe dry itchy and cracking skin. i need relief!

Don't take extremly hot baths. They always cause my skin to dry out faster and get itcher.

I just use Oil of Olay on my dry itchy legs. But that might not be enough for you. You really might need a prescription from the dr.

I use moisture rich soaps by Dove ~ they have one now with oils...it's awesome

I also use Vaseline's aloe vera body lotion before I head out for my runs

Yes, don't take hot showers. If you don't sweat a lot, I would suggest taking a shower or bath every other day in the winter. If your hair is oily, wash it in the sink.
I have heard that straight shea butter is really good, but it is very expensive. I think I used to use Lubriderm on my daughter when she was younger. She had very dry skin. Watch what you are using for soap too. You might want to buy some all natural stuff. If you are careful not to leave where the kids can get it and melt it, it does last a long time.

My skin sounds a lot like yours. Cracked and bleeding knuckles are not uncommon for me.
For years, I used Cetaphil Moisturizing CREAM, (in a jar/tub with screw top lid), not their lotion. Bought it in two packs at Costco. My dermatologist recommended it. I think it's great!

Another thing I read about and tried was using Olive Oil all over (even on your face) - either in the shower (pat dry with a towel afterwards), or after a shower. You just have to be patient and let it soak in. I usually wear my robe for a while. Olive oil is wonderful for both skin and hair. But, if you don't like the greasy feel of some lotions, it may not be for you.

This is similar to what I do, but I use either baby oil or Skin So Soft from Avon. I slather it on while I am still wet in the shower, let it soak in for a few moments and then pat my skin dry. Doing this lets the oil lock in the water that is on your skin. I have also been known to put a cap full of oil into the bathtub with my bath water and soak in it. Just be careful not to slip when you get out and the tub will have to be scrubbed immediately after. It really does help.

The only other thing I can think of that you might want to try is the Oil of Olay moisturizing lotion that you put on in the shower. It works really well too.

I know Sarna lotion is recommended by drs, but the smell is not the greatest. Really Eucerin is the best there is!

You could try corn huskers lotion my DD uses that as a lot of the dance kids here use it also to keep their hands and legs smooth.

I agree with you, I hate Eucerin...it feels gross when I put it on. The only thing that ever worked for my girls is Jergens Ultra Healing lotion (for very dry skin)...my kids fight over it. It feels wonderful on and instant relief. Its the only one they use in the winter.
