I know - it is very frustrating. The reasonable gyms around me don't offer classes during "mommy" hours. The classes are all geared towards professionals - 6 AM, noon for the lunch hour crowd, and 5:30, 6:30, and 7:30 for the after work crowd. I actually spent several hours this weekend calling about 5 of them to see if they might work for me and totally struck out. We have a Y that is really close to my house, which is where most of my friends that aren't members of a country club go but it is a fancy Y and it costs $100 a month which seems really steep to me. We already pay that much for our swim/tennis and my kids do sports through a church league that we spend almost $1000 a year for, so the only thing I would be paying for is a few classes. Not very appealing.
Now once both of my kids are in school until 2:30, lots of options will open up for me, but that is still about 2 years away. And if I was more agreeable to childcare, that would help my situation too, but the gym childcares around here are nasty. Luckily I have a bunch of home gym stuff. My dh works out at a gym really close to his work and he plays a lot of tennis, so he is covered. It is just Mom left to fend for herself!
