I wanted to say hoofcare, but yeah...almost.
Anyway, I'm now in heels a lot or dress shoes, and while they are comfy, they aren't my favorite pair of hiking boots.
I'm getting calluses on my feet Now, I walk everywhere barefoot - inside, outside etc. I'm down with having a bit of the hardened sole, but the callus thing that is forming on the ball of my foot and on the bottom of my big toe annoy me, and they look funky.
What are some suggestions for foot care? I've NEVER done anything with my feet - no special scrubs, and I have no interest in someone else touching them, so I need some home ideas. I've seen the callus remover things - from those pumice stones to things that look like cheese graters (??????).
Help?

I use a foot file, every day in the shower...it works well for me. I do get pedicures every month, and she doesn't have to do much for my heels due to my 'daily work', as she calls it. LOL
A pumice stone could work for you, if you haven't used anything before, it's very forgiving and then moisturize afterwards. Just do it every day, put moisturizer on every night etc
You can also try those lotions like "Pretty Feet and Hands", and Kerasal, that helps remove rough skin/calluses.

I have TERRIBLE feet, can't go get pedicures even if I wasn't too cheap. *diabetic* Doc is ALWAYS checking my feet, and he told me to use Bag Balm every night. Sleep with it and socks on. I HATE sleeping in socks, but MAN, does it help. I also use the 3 sided foot tool every shower *pumice, 'grater' and 'sandpaper' to keep it in control

I can't stand to have people touch my feet so I never go for pedicures. Those "cheese graters" you mentioned work great...give them a try...and moisturize afterward.

You have to admit - the cheese graters look intimidating to the footcare uninitiated!
What is the three sided foot tool? Maybe I could use it to "ease" into the cheese grater....

Well, actually the one I have now if a 4 surface.
They come with the pumice, the 'grater', a 'soft sandpaper', and a brush. I never use the brush, but the other 3, in that order

Last year I noticed my heels were getting dry and cracking. Yuck! I bought this pumice type filing tool that I use after I bathe. It removes the dead skin, leaving my feet much smoother and not cracked. I highly recommend this product. I think it was made by Dr. Scholls.

I use a pumice block I bought at the dollar store, similar to the one used at the pedicure shops. I keep it in my shower and use it just before I step out. If my feet are looking particularly dry, I slather them in vaseline or bag balm and put on a pair of old socks. Then, I go to bed. In the morning, they look and feel fabulous.
I've tried doing this in the morning and then wearing socks and shoes for the day, but it felt gross to walk around that way

I can suggest some home foot spa you can find in the stores. I think the trick to do is to soften it up and rub it all off. And these foot spas have different variations like in the scent and even mint.. so you'll enjoy it too.

I have the worst feet in the world. I go to the foot doctor a couple times a year and she cuts the calluses off with a scalpel. The fact that I do taekwondo in my bare feet does not help. I have found that Eucerine ointment (the kind in the jar) does wonders. I slather it on after a shower and wear socks to bed. It really softens your feet.
