My boys will be baptized this weekend and was wondering if we should get the godparents a gift? If so, what should we give them?

I went to a religous store and bought the godmother a cross necklace and the Godfathers a cross pin for their suit.

I've never heard of giving gift...Dh and I have never received gifts as Godparents and we've never given gifts to our Godparents. I'm sure it would be well received if it was something you wanted to do though...maybe a corsage for the ceremony? I'm sure you'd be able to find gift items online or at a religious store.

I got each of the Godfathers cross lapel pins or tie backs. Godmothers I got various items, some were not jewelry people so I gave one a bookmark with a favorite saint.
For my dd's first communion we are giving Godmother a Godmother figurine.

Typically, the Godparents give a gift to the child and may even give the church a donation for the service. It isn't usual to give a gift to the Godparents, however. Afterwards, a picture of the child with them at the baptism would be nice as well as a card saying how much it means to have them take on such an important responsibility. Including them in all the child's future activities is thanks enough.
