I took my 13 yr old dd to the dr yesterday and he said she has tennis elbow. She is to take ibuprofen, use a heating pad and one of those strap braces. She has been doing this, but she is still up for hours at night with her arm hurting. Any one else have any tips? She starts another volleyball league in June, so I would like to have this better soon!

We treat it at my work w/Physical Therapy and very successfully in kids, adults and seniors even. I'm not sure about heat though, because you are supposed to ice and take
ibuprofen if it seems swollen. Heat is more "comfortable" but icing is more common for things like this! If you have insurance, see if you can get her into some PT. Good luck!

I had tennis elbow back in my high school volleyball days. It was a pain, but livable. It's likely not going to just 'go away'... it'll cronically bug her throughout her sporting career. She'll just have to learn to take care of it.

Your high school should have some sort of an athletic trainer. He or she will help not only with sports injuries in their school but other schools in the district too. Have your daughter talk to her. She'll be shown some good streatches, told how and when to ice / heat it, and possibly have her volleyball 'form' examined so that she can modify how she plays to less agitate her elbow.
