The Annual exam got Me thinking about the Other necessary Evil - Dental Exams twice a Year.
I am happy to say that we are all back on track to the every 6 month Rule ....
I kept my kids Current but let mine and Hubbys appointments Slide .... For um ... about 3 years
Well the Woke up call came when I was In Utter Pain With a Toothache - and I Didn't even know which tooth it was Man it hurt like Hell.... All I knew was that it was on the Right side of my mouth...
Anyway After a Visit to the Oral surgeon and Several Cavites Filled and Teeth Repaired -
I am Back on track going Every 6 months. Lack of dental care in my case - came to a Screeching EXPENSIVE halt.
We Don't have dental insurance - So It is Expensive
But I Can't complain i try to Make it seem ok since my DH has a Company Vehicle - and He doesn't even pay for gas .... So I guess that $ Goes towards our teeth.

Yep. We go religiously. We have dental insurance, but our dentist is out of network. So, it is still quite costly - not as bad as it would be if we had lots of fillings, crownwork, etc. though! I used to work as a dental assistant, and I know how much the health of your mouth can affect the rest of your system. So, we make this a priority.

I've always gone once a year, because I kept my dentist from my hometown - which is 4 hours away!!! I hate going to the dentist, so I figured why get a new one?
But now that I'm married, we have a dentist here in town. I went to him last summer, and just totally forgot to go again in January. For some reason at this dentist, you don't make your next appt before you leave - and they don't send reminders. Well, at least I never got any.
I JUST called and made appts for dh and I to go tomorrow! Thanks for the reminder!

This is so true!!
I heard a story recently of a boy who had a tooth abscess and it went to his brain
Sadly he died .

I am scheduled to go to the dentist Thursday afternoon, as a matter of fact. I recently had my wisdom teeth removed, so this is the first visit afterwards. I am due for my 6 month cleaning and this is a new dentist (I was working a couple hours away from home last year, so found a new dentist there) but am back home, so had to find another new one. The one I used to go to before working out of town makes me angry, so no more of him. He's really nice, but he is the reason why I will have to get a crown. The only cavity I have ever had in my life, and he thinned the wall of my tooth so thin on one side, that that particular side of my tooth has broken off, leaving my filling just hanging there. Not a good feeling. At any minute I am scared that that crunchy chip will cause the filling to fall out, and then I'll be left with a hole all the way to the nerves in my mouth. SOOOOO, I am going Thursday to get estimates on crowns and what not. We will see. Anywhoo, that went longer than I wanted...sorry.

Yes we do, and I have all my life except for a breif period when I was 17- 20...I went to the dentist and had to have my gums cleaned/scraped (if you've had it done you KNOW how much it hurts) I was numbed but not enough and it hurt...BAD.... then dentist told me to stop being a baby and just take it...Never went back to him again (a few years later he was having some court issues with Insurance fraud...serves him right getting caught!)
It took a root canal by a very kind oral surgeon at 6 AM to get me back into a dentist chair. Luckily we now have a great dentist and all of us go regularly.

My family always goes once every 6 months...It took me a long time to go back when I had a HORRIBLE experiance!!!! When i was 19 I had to get my wisdom teeth removed. They were impacted and for some reason the dentist in my town thought I needed surgery to get them out safely...Well, Durring surgery the anastesiologist had a heart attack and while the nurses were helping him my anastesia (I have no idea on spelling) wore off and I felt everything! It was aweful! I would rather go through labor with no pain meds then EVER feel that again. I was swollen and infected for about 3 weeks after that! It took me a while to actually have the guts to step into another dentist office. I am terrified that something bad is going to happen again. Since I turned 22 I have been going twice a year again, but I still hate to go. I had one cavity (my first since kinder!!!) a year ago and I was so terrified to get if fixed they sent me to a dental specialist in a town over and I had to get both gas and shots.

My dh insurance is aweful! He works for the union and they brought a dentist down from Spokane which and if we go there then its fully covered but if we go somewhere else they dont cover anything. Well, we tried the union dentist and they messed up my gums, scared my children to death and hurt my ds, also they did a root canal on dh and didnt give him enough novacaine and he felt the entire thing and when he told them in the middle that he could feel everything they just said oh well we are already working on it so you will just have to deal! Crazy!! We did report them to the union and filed complaints and we werent the only ones but the union doesnt care cuz they refuse to cover any other dentists in our area. So its not just our family that isnt going to the dentist. Its 3/4 of the union(including the higher ups)!! If we could afford to pay out of pocket we would but we just cant afford it right now. Hopefully though that will change now that Im going back to work!!
