Let me firs tsay that I am not trying to start a debate or anything like that, but I have a legit question.

DD has been going to VBS this week with a friend. Yes this is unusal to us since we do not attend church and we are not a reglious family. She is going because it is something she thought might be fun and new.

Well last night on the way there, the girls were talking and started arguing about where the rain came from. Keep in mind they are 5 so this is also midly amusing. Well one would say that God mad the rain and the other said no, it's Mother Nature.

My question, do they really tell kids in church that God makes it rain?? I know this is a rather nieve question, but I am curious.

Basically, God made everything. You can give the scientific explaination, but God is behind the science too!

I agree w/Happymom. And it depends on who is teaching what.

Well said, Happymom.

Did they figure out they were both right?

They quickly moved on to another topic. I could hardly keep up with everything they were talking about. You know how kids are.

I would say that God is sad and its his tears.

but dh has a very hands off approach to god and nature, and he says that God set up an eco system, and if its raining to much, then we screwed up the balance.

I agree with Happymom, too. I'm not a huge fan of personifying a planet, making it sound like the Earth itself is alive. God made everything, including the science of meteorology. So I'm in the "God makes it rain" camp.

Yep, I agree with Happymom, too. God made the science behind the rain as he made the science behind anything.

Periwinkle, not to attack you, but I feel I have to say this. Please don't make it sound like God is sad so it rains. Rain is a GOOD, GREAT, NECESSARY thing. Just because it rains does not mean it is bad or anybody should be sad or negative We celebrate rain at our house! After being in a drought for so long, rain is a great thing. Sure, storms can be scary, but a rainshower? If it isn't lightning or thundering, we have been known to go outside and play in the rain for a bit. I always tell my kids, "We won't melt." Sorry, but just a thought.

My boys got into this one too and several off shoots of it. I explain it as God made the earth and everything in it. He set everything in motion and then I can get into the actual science of the matter. But for us, He started it.

Perewinkle, I've always thought He would be happy to welcome the ones who have passed into his home. It's just us that grieve until we get to hug them again.

We think about our garden laughing and dancing when it rains and thank God for giving it to us.
