Well, I know that God states in the Bible to choose your friends carefully. What about when you SIL wants to be your best friend and she isn't a good friend to begin with. For instance I was upset with DH one time ( who is her brother) at church and she said "I don't know why you are with him?" Basically she is shameless, doesn't think before she speaks, uses people, is 23 with two kids that she can barely handle, justifies stealing from someone's veggie stand and thinks nobody has it worse than her. She goes to church to use people, because during the week she doesn't have many morals. Anyway, I don't want to be cruel but as someone who is trying to do what is right and get closer to God I don't think being around her all the time is going to help. She just moved in the same town I live too. I visited one time but think now I need to find some good people to hang out with. Should I be honest? What would you do? I read on a website about the Bible and making friends said that if you choose the wrong friend it turns into a curse. Now I try not to judge others but people that continue to do wrong and expect me to compromise my beliefs rub me the wrong way.

My mom is now a paster's wife. She always told me birds of a feather fly together.
Now I will talk to anyone even the homeless and be friendly and polite.I am not predjudice in any way.But if you're my best friend you need to be someone that I can TRUST and feel comfortable with. Someone who's not gonna lead me astray purposely by their influence and critisims. You could talk to her and say I love you as my sister in law. But i just don't feel we have enough in common to be bestfriends. I kind of like my space. and I hope this doesn't hurt you.Cause it's not meant to. I just think you deserve my honesty.Pray God give you the strength and he will. And pray about your future bestfriend just like folks pray about a future husband. Whatever you do think it over and get it done and behind you.Cause God intends no one be tormented with worry. I know cause ma always did.

I think if it's someone you have to judge harshly, you should not attempt to be friends. Just don't be hostile - be polite. Sometimes you will have to grind your teeth. Of course, all bets are off if she is downright rude directly to you.

I wouldn't tell her outright that you don't want to be best friends, I would just be very unavailable for awhile until she finds someone else to hang around with.

I am like that too. Sometimes it gets me used by the wrong people. But, I will be friendly to most everyone but I am picky about my friends, especially now that I am trying to get closer to God. He doesn't want us to shun people, just be careful about who you spend a lot of time with. To be honest if she wasn't my husband's sister I would be nice but never be good friends with her.

I also am always scared about hurting other people's feelings even if they don't seem to care as much about mine.
