okay, this isn't really a spinoff but could be. I need a good pair of tennis shoes. I will not be running. I will be doing some treadmill, but more eliptical and bike with stair stepper thrown in there. I tend to have slightly wider feet but I don't wear wide shoes. I would prefer to keep it under $60.00 but am willing to go higher. I also do weight training with areobic workout.
I used to get really bad shin splints when I did run back when I was a young pup ( I'm talking junior varsity).
thanks for the help ladies.

Girl,

The best advice I can give you, because you have such a varied work out program, is to consult with a shoe expert at a local running shoe store. They can do a computerized print out of your foot and recommend shoes to fit your foot properly and ones that will give you the best support ~ according to your budget too. Typically this service is free, so don't be shy to ask for it!

(and I'm not talking about a Footlocker store, or athletic store like that, I'm talking about a running shoe store for serious athletes)

Good luck!

Here in Texas there's a store called Run On! that does the kind of thing Christy is talking about. I got a pair of Saucony shoes there and they were worth the extra money. I trained for and walked in a half marathon and they were like clouds on my feet. I bet MN has stores like that. Here's what I got when I googled 'running store Minnesota'.

The Running Network -- Stores -- List

I can also recommend Ryka cross trainers. They are a women's shoe company. I use them for Jazzercise and I love them.
