This is OT from the purpose of the original poster but I wanted to comment on this quote.
Most Catholics *I *know (I'm a cradle/practicing Catholic, so I know a lot of them ) are totally pro-life. There are quite a few divorced Catholics in our parish, even though I don't agree with divorce unless abuse/betrayal is involved. Our church is accepting of homosexuals (love the sinner/hate the sin). My brother, whom I love dearly, is gay. I've accepted it on the outside but on the inside I'm still very torn. As far as the role of women in the church---I think some changes need to be made because vocations to the priesthood is down. We should either allow priests to marry or allow women into that role. Just my two cents worth.

I got a little nervous, because I wasn't quite sure on some of the questions. I think I need to study the bible a little more. LOL. But I ended up where I thought I was.

Goodnightmoon, I was also raised catholic - all catholic schools/all girl schools, etc. Most of my friends are still catholic & very active in their churches. And most of them are pro-choice. If you read what I wrote, I did not say that most catholics are pro-choice. I listed four topics and that most catholics do not agree with the church on all of them. That means some would agree with the church on some of them. I'm sorry you're so torn re: your brother. PFLAG might be able to help you out there.

No prob goodnightmoon - I just wanted to clarify so folks would know what I was saying. Funny about your bro (cath/repub). As far as a church similar to Catholicism - I know the Lutheran church is very similar in many ways, but their ministers are allowed to marry. I'm not sure if women can be ordained ministers in the Lutheran Church, or in certain synods. I think they might discourage divorce but I doubt it's cause for excommunication as it is a protestant faith.
