If you are planning on joining us for WALKTOBER please sign up here. AND if you want additional encouragment, give us your daily/weekly step goals! Remember 10,000 steps is roughly equivalent to 5 miles (very doable for a day's worth of concentrated walking)

I know this is lame, but I am not participating! I am instead upping my gym participation and I can't find my pedometer. However, I can reassure you I will be here making sure you all check in and record your progress.

For those of you participating, here is your check list so you are ready to start on MONDAY!!

1) Have a fully charged battery
2) have your pedometer safely secured to either your hip or tied to your shoe lace (I find that the best location)
3) A notepad or journal to record your daily step count
4) Daily or weekly step goals.....

Once you have all of those things lined up adn ready to go, you can start marching your way to better fitness on MONDAY!

Sign up if you are ready to go ~ and give us your daily or weekly step goals!

Is there a way to participate if you don't have a pedometer? (or maybe where I can pick one up for not much money)
I just talked to my dr about my insomnia and he suggested 1/2 hour of HARD exercise each day. This seems timely for me.

I think I will give it a go. I cannot give you my goals yet. I need to do at least a few days to get a feel for how many steps is in my average day. I used to do 15,000 to 20,000 every day without even trying. I am thinking my average now is waaaay lower. So after about 4 days, I will set my goals.

Kim, I got mine on amazon from a deal I found here. It is a fancy, dancy pedometer that I paid a total of $2.51 with shipping - normally $25. So, can't give you an idea of where to get one past Walmart (they have inexpensive ones there), but thanks for the link about 3 years ago!

I'm in too!! I'll have to "steal" my pedometer back from my son though. LOL

I'm going to set my goal at 10000 steps per day, and I'll wear mine from the time I get dressed in the mornings until after I get the kids to bed. After they're in bed, is usually when I wind down, and relax before bed!! Hopefully, by mid October, I'll be able to up my daily steps goal to 12000 or more!! I'm excited about this!!

Sure! Set goals for yourself each day. For example:

The days your kids go to preschool, those will be the days you walk for an hour or so
The days you have the kids home, those will be the days you make a conscious effort to get to do more stair work or maybe spend more time outside.

I don't know. You would have to evaluate the things you do now and think of ways you can be more active on your feet!

I'm in too! I've got my pedometer setting out already for tomorrow morning! I'm excited to get started! I'll also set my goal for 10,000 steps per day and see if that's manageable for me. Thanks Christy:happy dance:
