I am getting an IUD today and was wondering if it hurts really bad to get one? My doctor's office told me to make an appointment when my monthly visitor came to make insertion easier but I told them that won't we happening for 18 months since I don't have one until I stop nursing. I am getting the cooper IUD.

Well, everyone is different but I had no discomfort at all with the insertion or the removal. My OB told me that I could take some ibuprofen prior to the visit but I actually forgot to that...

Thanks That is good to hear My DH is thrilled I am getting one since he won't have to wear a condom any more Of course I am thrilled because it almost guarantees that I won't have anothe baby until I am ready...which might be never since I already have 2 kids, 3 dogs and a big baby of a husband to take care of.

I got the copper one put in while I was nursing too, and had no pain at insertion. A few mild cramps afterwards, but even those were barely noticeable. It is different for everyone, so I hope it goes smoothly for you!

Thanks for all of your feedback. I had it done and the worst part was having the extra large spreader used in me (boy did that pinch)...which my doctor says is a lot harder for nursing moms because we are naturally swollen down below.

I hope it stays in and works out.
