Are you one that can graciously accept help from others? Or do you have a HARD time doing this? Especially when you can't reciprocate in the same fashion.

The help could be with anything...a task, having them give you something, borrowing an item, babysitting, financially, etc...

I LOVE to help others, and will at a drop of a hat. However I have a hard time when others want to help me. I don't know if it's pride, the fact that it means I can't do it myself, or something else?? I am getting better, knowing that it makes them feel good to do it, but still find it hard. And heaven forbid that I would ever ASK for it !!! It took me an hour to talk myself into calling a friend to ask for help when my computer was down the other day ~

Where do you sit? Does it ever become easier??

I am better about it now if I truly need the help. There are some people who want to help me next week with meals and, honestly, I don't think we need the help, but as some wise women told me, I am accepting it so that they can help me. And feel good because I do it for others for the same reason so I get that.

I'm great at helping others out...horrible about letting others do the same for me!!

I think I'm afraid to be seen as weak...or in need. I'm also a control freak and usually think things are best done when they are done my way.

I've accepted help when it's been offered...but I find myself almost never asking for help even when I really need it. I wish I was better at it.

Kelli it's definitely a pride thing!

But here's how you can turn it around so that you don't have to feel so guilty!

When someone offers you to help they are WANTING to do something nice for you. When you do something nice for someone (as you said you like to do) you get a high from it right? It's nice to reach out and lend a helping hand or get involved when a friend needs help, right? So why deprive a friend of that same feeling? It's not necessarily just about you, it's about them feeling good about themselves too!

So if you can look at it that way and realize how fortunate you are to be surrounded by friends and family who care, let those people do nice things for you. Just as you would for them. You just have no idea how much of that community feeling I am missing right now!
