I was talking earlier in another thread about how Christmas is getting TO ME, to be all about the commercial aspects rather than the spiritual one. So this year I decided to get more involved in my church and celebrate the true value of Christmas and what it means to me. My kids are at an age where they are sponges now and I feel like I need to really impart our values and beliefs upon them so they too can build on their experience and foundation of our faith.

How are you putting Christ back into Christmas with your family?

No one takes Christ out of Christmas, just less people putting him in. Our Christmas is full of Christ. We go to regular church, and the Christmas pagents, making the advent wreaths, also at church. We have a nativity, Baby Jesus hasn't been placed in yet. It's all what you make it. Good for you making it what you want for your family. What a good MOmmy!

We just continue to remind our boys what Christmas is all about. They will even say to us "It's not about the presents it's about Jesus"........We try to show them about giving to others at this time and not always thinking about getting things.

We attended a Walk to Bethlehem that really hit home for the kids. A local church puts it on every year. It was wonderful. They set up an area outside that represents Joseph and Mary's journey to Bethlehem complete with donkeys, Roman soldiers and a town square. They have time period food and wares to sample in the village. It's all followed by cookies and cocoa at the end.

We participate in as many charity projects as possible. I have the kids do their own project each year. It's a project they choose and are in charge of. Plus, we try to help all that ask, in some way.

We all participate in the church Christmas program. (Stephen will be Mary this year! He! He! We don't have any little girls at our church this year except for Emily.)

I play Christian Christmas music in the vehicle the month of December.

We read lots of Christian Christmas stories (Max Lucado has some great ones).

We'll read the nativity story from the Bible as a family before all the holiday activites begin.

We also try not to emphasize what THEY want for Christmas, but rather what WE CAN GIVE OTHERS.

We also don't overload our schedules with lots of commercial activities. We keep it simple and do the things that really count.

We do something similar at our church. It ios called Los Posadas. It is a latin american thing. we say the rosary while reenacting Mary and Joseph's search for an inn. we do this every night until christmas. I think I put this in your other post.

my ds is 2 1/2 this year and we started doing Advent with him. We bought an Advent house at Target this year. He loves opening the door each day and getting a scripture out to read. Its also a great remimder every day of the month for me to think about the birth of Jesus. We are also planning a birthday party for Jesus on Chrismas morning.
