Hi:

I just started training to run the San Diego Rock N Roll Marathon on June 1st. Okay I started training a year and a half ago, then had to stop because I unexpectedly got pg with my DD. And I had just bought my first expensive pair of running shoes! So all year long they have been staring at me from the closet saying "Run, get off the bed and run!". I am now 1 month into my 7 months of training.

Anyone else in marathon training mode? Or just like to run?

I need all the support I can get to complete my goal...which is to just finish the marathon. I don't care if I have to walk the whole thing and crawl across the line....I just want to finish.

Right now I am dealing with sore ankles and knees. I wasn't able to run much last week because of it .

I found a cool website for runners to log in their runs and workouts.

MarathonGuide.com - Marathons, Running Directory and Community

Also for anyone interested in run training:

Hal Higdon

Hope to hear from you other running mommies soon!

Used to run 5Ks regularly but thats a no go since the baby. I tried to get going again this summer after about 3mo from birth but I was so disheartened by my lack of stamina. Then winter hit and between baby and weather it's all but been nada...

But i miss it!! I feel so sluggish. So I'm just going to try to get my stamina up doing what I can around the house and then come this spring...gotta get back in the game.

Good luck with training!!!! It's a long process for a marathon but from friends who run them it's a complete feeling of achievement.

You go girl!!! Good to have your competitive and motivating spirit on here...please stick around!

I myself "run" but would not classify myself as a "runner". I would like to one day challenge myself to a marathon (maybe within a couple years or so) but for now stick to 5Ks. I would like to run a 10K in the spring and know I could complete it but I psyche myself out. I need to get a new running game on ~ maybe find new running paths and challenge myself.

I wish you the best for your marathon training. Definitely come back and tell us how you did when you do complete it. Until then, lend us your tips....tell us how your training is going....Stevesgal (aka Jen) does a weekly check in...we'd love to hear from you on a weekly basis. It may be the very motivation I need to get my butt past 4 1/2 miles!!!!

Way to go on your training. I have done 1 5K and am doing another one the 29th of this month. I would like to do a 10K at some point, not sure if it will be this upcoming year or not.

Good luck.

Hi Everyone:

I am on week 4/5 of my training. Unfortunately I have had to take some time off from running because my knees and left ankle got really inflamed last week and now this week it's my lower back. Going to the chiro really helps but she suggested I not run again this week and instead do the elliptor or bike at the gym to give my back time to heal. So that is what I will be doing until the beginning of 2008. Then I will try running again and see how it feels. I soooooo want to complete the mararthon in June, but if my body can't handle it...I have to be smart about it and maybe postpone it a few months.

Hello Doozer:

My running has been put on hold for the past three weeks!!!!!
One week for swollen knees.
One week for swollen lower back. I went to my chiro and she stretched out my lower back and I couldn't get off the table. She felt around and said that she could feel inflammation and that I shouldn't run for another week. Then she did an ultrasound treatment on the area and it immediately felt better.
Then this past week I got that "wonderful" cold that has been going around. I got it from my 3 yo son who got hit hard with it on Saturday night. Poor kid has the full on fever, chills, congestion, massive soar throat...all of it. I have a much milder case of it, but I have just enough energy each day to keep up with the kids so....

I am planning to hit the treadmill on Monday morning, the track on Wednesday morning, and the treadmill again on Friday morning. Since I haven't run in so long I will be happy to complete a 2 mile jog/walk......aaarrrgggghhhh! One step forward, two steps back. But eventually I will get there.

On a fun note, DH and I will be running a 5K on January 26th. That also happens to be DH's birthday (the Big 3-5). The race is near my parents house which works out great since we were already planning to be up their visiting for the weekend for DH's and my sisters birthday (Dh on the 26th and sister on the 24th).

How is your running going?

How fun for you and your dh!!!! Good luck and be sure to come back and post us the updates!

My running has been COLD. Yes, I have been brave and running outdoors in this ridiculously frigid and windy weather. Why? Because I'm an idiot!!! No but seriously, as much as this sounds crazy, it feels good to brave the challenge and to get out there and moving when no one else is. I don't know....it seems to me to be something I am doing that most wouldn't and I take pride in that.

I haven't signed up for any races yet but do plan on doing another 5K this spring some time to make up for that horrific 5K I did during the ice storm in Dec. Hopefully the weather will be more favorable and my time will improve!

I do still want to run a 10K at some point. It's just a matter of finding the time to train for it. It's a struggle and it's a challenge for me to find the time, make the time, and run the entire thing. BUT I want to do it so I just have to see it through!

Good luck with your race!

You can SOOOO run a 10K!

I know it's hard to get out there and do it, but you can. I was thinking yesterday about all the excuses I have for not running:

1. Why run when I can sit and watch TV?
2. It's sooo cold out there!
3. I don't have the time. I actually do, I just have to get out there in the early morning while DH feeds the kids breakfast and before he goes to work.
4. I am soooo tired! Probably because I have been eating all kinds of junk and so I should get out there to boost my energy.
5. It's going to HURT!
6. Why run when I can go shopping instead?
7. Why run when I can eat a nice dinner with my best friend?

Just add on 5 more minutes of running each time you run and in no time you will be able to complete a 10K!
